Liberation.

1945 april the 25th.
In those days of war and hope.
In those days when the people of Italy stood, raised and rushed in the streets of our cities.
For all those who left their lifes on the fields and the dust and that will forever shine in the last and supreme very moment of their last breath.
And for the 600.000 foreign soldiers from any country that walked their boots in tiredness, hunger, thirst, danger and death leaving their friends buried under the italian soil.
For the privates and the officers.
For the partisans of any party and all those who helped.
Thank you.
Today is liberation day.

Enjoy the day Gianluigi
My dad was one of those who fought in N Africa and on through Italy.Like so many of his day he said very little about it. I do know he played in a Interservices table tennis championship in Venice.More relevent to this place is he went to Milan Opera several times seeing Beniamino Gigli amongst others. His love of opera has NOT been passed on to me though.

Hi Howard!
My grandpa fought in North Africa as well and got captured on Amba Alagi mountain.
Spent 7 years in an english camp in India and told me about the courtesy of the english army men and women.
You see how things change in history and how those who were enemies become friends and those, who speaks about revenge bringing entire countries in disaster, fall.
People who lived the hardest times of our world's life should be given the gift of living for centuries and teach to all new generations.
Our being humans and mortal is the paradox of our being developed and thinking over all the other species.
So the only last thing, for good willing women and men, is to learn.
Cheers

Happy Liberation Day, Gianluigi.
I'll happily raise a glass with you tonight for all those who fought or laid down their lives for freedom back then.

Gianluigi
My father fought and was wounded in Italy.
He has always wanted to return and admire the things that he ended up sheltering behind. I know he was stunned with Pompeii... Alas his age and heath will not permit a return visit. However I did mention your greetings...and while he has never spoken much about his ordeal, a small smile and a tear did appear.
Thank-you
Warmest regards,

Hi Michael!
I'm very sad your father can't stand a trip back to Italy.
I know that all this can sound very rhetorical and suave to someone, but my deepest hope is that his and many others' sacrifice will last in time and sublime in a perpetual monition for the people to come.
Thank you
Gianluigi
