Last two Cd's bought are

Nada Surf - Let Go
Chris Rea - Dancing down the Stony Road

Fave tracks (so far early listening)

Blonde on Blonde and Mississippi respectively.
Posted on: 04 February 2003 by fred simon
Le Pas du Chat Noir - Anouar Brahem
exquisite chamber music for oud, piano, and bandoneon, sublime ECM production as usual

Talk to Her (soundtrack) - Alberto Iglesias, Henry Purcell, Caetano Veloso, others
deeply moving music from a deeply moving film, stylistically diverse

How Sweet It Is - Joan Osborne
Soulful, highly imaginative re-inventions (largely by the brilliant John Levanthal) of well-known songs (such as title track), not just reharmonized but in some cases new melodies and new tempi; re-compositions, really ... only the lyric remains. Amazing.

All CDs, all fantastic music throughout.

Dozy, The Tain indeed!

Thats a blast from the past. I finally managed to find this, and Book Of Invasions on CD a few years ago. Are any other Horslips available and worthwhile? I did have a stack on vinyl but sold (don't say anything) all my records years ago.

Richard Galliano & Eddy Louiss
Face to Face - An unusual combination of Hammond organ and accordion

Stephen Bennett
Harp Guitar - Self explanatory really. I have been intrigued by the sound and history of this instrument since hearing Michael Hedges play one.

For those of a like mind, the following URL maybe useful.

for those who may wonder - this isn't me! Though I do get asked to play gigs, mistakenly ,occasionally. neither am I a SB tribute band.

OK that's it. I'm now, professionally, SJ Bennett

Cool

Sorry for any confusion Stephen.

I should have said A Stephen Bennett, rather than THE Stephen Bennett

Hi!
I can from Nick Lees list see that it contains an album from the swedish lapponia musician Marie Boine. A very interesting musician who deserves a lot more attention. I would say you can buy any of her albums and not be dissappointed.
And if you like Marie Boine then you have a lot of really good swedish artist in that genre.
Enteli is one band that you shouldn´t miss
Another really worth having album is Lena Willemark: "Windogur".

I WANNA BATHE IN MILK! - PJ Harvey rocks - I need to get a lot more; only have 4 track dems, Dry and Stories...

Last CD I got is too embarrassing to mention but it hails from Russia and has extra multimedia content... Gulp!

Last LP - just got Hypnotised by the Undertones - 70p, British Heart Foundation - hope "What's with Terry" plays better on this copy than my old one, which is scratched...

When the music's over turn out the lights

Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

This is a new release "Sundazed" pressing from the original mono master tape. It is an all analogue mastering. The mono tape has not been used before, unlike the the stereo tape which has been overused and ruined. The sound is very good.

This particular album doesn't lose anything from being mono as it's basically acoustic with Dylan singing in the centre.

I recommend it.

Cyrus Chestnut - The Dark Before the Dawn

Piano/bass/drum trio. This guy is a monster; a veritable walking history of jazz piano. He does Tatum, Brubeck, Tyner, Peterson, McPartland, Monk, Jarrett, and more, sometimes Brubeck with the left and Peterson with the right, simultaneously... amazing.

Current Ninety Three - Under Soft Black Stars (with Antony & Backworld)

Favourite track - Don't know, yet to catch up on the listening pile (now approx 200 deep)

DS

OTD - Edwin Starr - Contact mash up / bootleg

Dozy and Bruce,

Pretty wide collection of Horslips avaiable on Amazon. Alternativley, if you are passing through Dublin airport there is a CD store with a great collection on contemporary Irish. I picked up the Man Who Built America. Brought a smile of memory back. Band with a sense of humor.

Cheers, David

Last albums were part of a package from amazon.de and included:

Talk Talk - Best Of ?
Cock Robin - Best Of ? (don't ask, ok ?)
Miles Davis - KoB
Scott Walker - Scott 2, 3, 4
Richard Ashcroft - Alone With Everybody

As you can see I'm on a slow journey of Scott discovery. Scott 3 and 4 will stay in their wrappers for the next few months but I'm listening to Scott 2 at the moment. I really like this album and think it builds nicely on Scott 1. Great voice, great orchestration, weird lyrics, weird delivery. These solo albums must have been pretty shocking in the '60s.

My new best friend is Richard Ashcroft - Alone With Everybody. This is not his new release (which I have not heard), but a 2000 release that I've just caught up with. I think this is superb ! It rips, rotates, rocks, grooves and, to a degree, fux. Listening on a walkman the quality also seems good. As I walked into work today I couldn't resist walking to the beat ! I felt pretty cool and dammit I think my walk looked cool ! (track was track 10, C'mon People Making it Now ? if you want to try it at home).

As a counterpoint, I did a Forum search and this album received relatively negative revues here when it was released. YMMV.

Regards from a very snowy Munich

Is this the Carl Jenkins of Soft Machine and what's it like. I used to be a big SM fan and have recently listened to a lot of their material again (still like them).
