Danni Minogue - Don't wanna lose this feeling
Electic Six - Gay Bar DVD
Coloursound - Fly with me
Phatt B - And da Drum machine
DS
OTD - The Modernist - Come Back

Vinyl on my doorstep today:
Rolling Stones:
12 X 5 (London mono version)
Now! (London mono)
December's Children (London mono)
Aftermath (London mono -- silly, since this was in stereo originally)
All are near-minty. Not worth much as collector's items, but fun to hear amd look at.

I suspect that David Slater uses this thread as his on-line catalogue. Also he, and others, buy in bulk so which of the twenty is the last?
Just be grateful that they are not listed in the "Nick Lees Head" thread
Mine:
King Crimson : Beat
King Crimson : Three of a Different Pair
Richard Thompson : Across a Crowded Room
All on vinyl, cheap from ebay.

I find it interesting to see what other people are buying. Over time, I've got a bit of a feel for who has tastes that converge with mine. Knowing what they are buying gives me pointers where to start looking next.

Just to please Dozy, I only acquired 1 CD today, so I can easily tell which was the last one I bought. It was :
Current 93 / Coil / Nurse with Wound - England's Hidden Reverse.
It is in fact a CD with a hardback book, subtitled 'A Secret History of the Esoteric Undeground'
Lots of wonderful pictures and drawings, and many musical side alleys mentioned to read about and explore.

OTD - Tiga - Hot In Herre

Leaf Records? Is there anything on there off of Circle by Boom Bip & Dose One? I think it's a gem of an album, but I've never picked up on anything else on the label. I'd be interested to know if there anything worth checking out on it.

Why? - Miss Ohio's Nameless
On Vinyl
Themselves - This Too About The City
Why? - Oaklandazulasylum
quote:
Dot-Alt says...
Sounds like: indie-folk with synths and beats, gawkily and brilliant
Why's idea of a battle rhyme is "I'm recording these vocals in my underwear- Your shit sounds like you recorded in a hoodie on a hot day". Hiphop-or-not is a tired subject, and inherently it doesn't matter. oaklandazulasylum sounds more like the product of crippling neurosis, pained genius driven by an inability to fit into society. Why? is an injection-moulded triangle, being unsuccessfully inserted by a toddler into the circular space on its Early Learning Zone shapes board.
oaklandazulasylum is hiphop in the sense that it is instinctive, self-taught. Rather than the rather contrived, if occasionally stunning, compositions of cLOUDDEAD, Why?'s Anticon debut sounds like he's been cooped up in a room with a book of scribbled poems, a mic, a sampler, acoustic guitar and a synth... and after a while it just happened.
This is the album Fog would make if Woody Allen was writing the lyrics. Or maybe it's what an autistic Connor Oberst would sound like if he was a Weezer fan. It's awkward, honest, obscure, with a soft, oafish and folksy beauty running through every singe song.
Sometimes, Why? is mean. "I fucked your girlfriend and I'd probably do it again", he drones. He thinks he's unattractive, and he says he's fine with that, but some of the fragile and bitter-sweet motifs would suggest otherwise. When the upbeat keyboard bass and sloppy drums of 'women eye, "no" ' drop, and Why? sings "I just found out for sure the girl I have a crush on is a lesbian, and all the other women I know love Dose", I want to give him a massive, desperate, life-affirming cuddle.
DoseOne is destined to overshadow Why? like the attractive, talented best friend that he is. When I was still getting to know the Anticon collective in their entirety, I've been guilty of commenting that Why? may share Dose's vision, but not his skills. That was missing the point.
Superficially, there is similarity between the two. Dose has his oblique, scatterbrain approach and sing-song flows, and though Why?'s songwriting occasionally borders on the absurdist, more often it's earnest, organised, though a little bit haphazard.
The whole thing is almost entirely self-produced (Jel makes an SP1200 appearance on two tracks, while Odd Nosdam provides samples for another), the instrumental sound of the record fits in perfectly with Anticon's quasi-electro, indie-rock-loving, half-way conscious collagey aesthetic. In combination with Why?'s irresistible, introspective vocals, oaklandazulasylum is likely to melt you heart along with your brain.

I rang my local and as I suspected, this has been available for quite some time now. I complained vociferously about living in a small country and was offered no solace. Anyway, the order has been placed ex Chermany so my cup will soon be runnething over.

The Majesticons versus The Infesticons: Beauty Versus Ugly The instrumental albums
Instrumental versions of Gun Hill Road make the admission price a bargain, and the hope of the Majesticons becoming acceptable makes it a steal.

I searched yesterday and nothing came up. Is there a special feature on E-bay that alerts people to searches? Bizzare.
