Trüby - elevator music: really cool fusion, complex rythms, with S American underpinnings on some tracks, highly recommended.

Cesora Evoria - Anthology: This is perfect music for chilling out in the summer, again highly recommended.

On vinyl (this morning on way to doc's):
OXFAM
So good - Mica Paris
Bob Dylan's greatest hits (never owned - so even this 80s pancake pressing has to be better than nothing)

Help the aged (don't laugh - ALL of these came to 50p! and all are mint)
The final - WHAM!
Scoundrel days - AHA
Radio Musicola - Nik Kershaw
Business as usual - Men at work
Power windows - Rush
So - Peter Gabriel

On CD, last acquisition was Touch'n'go's "Will you?" on CD single 'cos I haven't heard it in ages and the cassingle I have is wank sounding to be honest.

AND - just received a 12 inch of "The lone deranger EP" by Hallucinogen - please GOD let it be the track with that riff that's stuck in my head...

When the music's over turn out the lights

On vinyl

Gangstarr - Daily Operation
APC & Matthew Shipp - APC vs Matthew Shipp (Ltd white vinyl)

APC worked fine in my old Marantz, but goes nuts in my (unPIC'd) CD3.5. Thirsty Ear reckon it isn't copy protected, so dunno what's up there. Still, having found the white vinyl, I nolonger care!

PS - I got the DM and Jemini mix free from Warp. However, you can can also get it free on the front of this month's Hip Hop Connection.

On vinyl:

-Yo La Tengo: And the Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out.
-Psychedelic Furs: Mirror Movies
-Unwound: Challenge for a Civilized Society
-Neutral Milk Hotel: In The Aeroplane Over the Sea.

The Neutral Milk Hotel is a standout. It manages to recall everything from John Denver to early Pavement. Seriously!

Lush, isn't it. The missus slapped it on this morning. Love it. If you don't have On Avery Island, you will be wanting it.

I was in Brighton at the weekend, and had a most satisfactory shopping expidition.

I left the Wife on the beach and in the clothes shops, and even managed an hour or two of relaxation as well.

I would rate Brighton as the third best City for record shopping in England, after London & Manchester. Sydney Street and the surrounding area in the North Laines is becoming a real draw for both new and old vinyl. There is Music Meltdown, Wax Factor, Across the Tracks, Infinite, Covert, Energy Flash, Urban, Edgeworld, The Punker Bunker, Borderline, Rounder, Bionic as well as the usual chains. (any others worth knowing?)

I acquired the following vinyls :

? - Dark side of the Autobahn
(described as a cross of Autobahn, Dark side of the Moon and Throbbing Gristle?)

Ed Rush & Nico - Torque
(Upgrade from CD to vinyl 3 LP set, reminded by Gary's post)

Danni Minogue - Don't Wanna Lose this felling
(remix double pack)

Noxagt - Turning it Down since 2001
(Norweigan viola grindcore - after intriging Wire review)

Awex - I like that mixes
Calyptol Inhalant - L.S.D.
Suncoil Sect - Counterculture
Bell - Winning Signal
[Komfort.Labor] pesents - Native Lab (with Kid 606, V. Delay, Mike Dred etc)
Various Artists - New York Noise (Liquid Liquid, ESG, Konk, Material etc.)
Labradford / Surfers of Romantica - Ene remixes
Joachim Spieth / M. Mayer - Under Pressure / Supertiel remix
T. Raumschmiere - Monstertruck driver
Attica Blues - Blueprint remixes (Plastikman etc.)
Codebase - Seek & Destroy EP
Subsonic Legacy - Ode to Billy Joe (full sleeved copy)
Khan featuring Julie Cruise - Say Goodbye - Losoul & Rework mixes
Katana - Erotmania remixes (more remixes, Dave angel, CJ Bolland)
The Black Neon - Your Sex Life
GD Luxxe - Vendetta
Alexander Robotnick - Oh No.... Robotnick!
Tok Tok Vs. Soffy O. - 2x12" LP
Various Artists - Kingz of the Rollers EP Volume Two (M.I.S.T / D. Kay / Calibre / Artificial Intelligence)
Various Artists - Kingz of the Rollers EP Volume Three (Pendulum / Total Science / D.Kay / Usual Suspects)
Hardfloor - Dadamnphreaknoizphunk sampler promo
Orbital - Omen
Out Hud / !!! - split EP
Kotai - Kotai
Fragma - Everytime you need me (Pulsedriver remix)
Ceephax - Acid Quakers 1000
Thomas Brinkman - Soul Center
Ege Bam Yasi - How to boil an Egg
Mike Ink / Structure - 303% acid
Skids - Days in Europa
C-Tank - Nightmares are Reality
In the Nursery - Counterpoint
Nektar - Remember the Future
Alien Sex Fiend - Ignore the Machine (original 12"version)
Otomo - Yjonata 4
Amanada Lear - Assassino
Overboust - Tribal Groovy Hartbeat
Shi-Take No. 5 - Dark Stab
Krid Snero - My Vibrator and Me

Bizz O.D. - Disco Trash
Ultrahigh - Primitive Love pt 1
Posted on: 13 July 2003 by ejl
Norweigan viola grindcore?

Never thought I'd see those three words together.

The DJ Hell translates: "These moments will not be lost like tears in the rain." Here's hoping the music's less cliched. Smile

Hi David

Seems like you got most of them round there. You may have missed a s/h place up Trafalger Street, past Wax Factor, and 52 Recs, which is on the road up from the Pavillion.

BTW, thanks for the Labradford LP. If you are ever down again, and fancy meeting up for a beer, give me a shout.

Mekon,

Thanks, I will add those to the trawl next time, and contact you if I have free time down in the area.

I forgot some other shops : 'Bangin Tunes' and 'Dance 2 Records" (although they are at the wrong end of town really) Friends have told me of a place called 'BPM', but I couldn't find it there. (I know the ones in Leicester and Derby). There is that CD shop near Rounder as well? Is that it?

Wasn't there also an Indie place on the same side of the stteet ar Urban? That seems to have gone missing?

DS

ITC Pulse - At the New Place
Posted on: 14 July 2003 by Mekon
Hi David

The place by Urban (next road along) was called Bang! Dunno what happened, but Legs (Mechanical Insects MC) who used to work there now works in/runs Infinite Records.

That CD place by Rounder is dead cheap for silver discs, well worth a visit.

It's called Essential Music. I think BPM is right at the bottom of Trafalgar Street opposite the old guitar exchange that is now doing some very interesting 2nd hand valve hi-fi gear - or is that another one??
