Which painting would you like to have at home?

Posted by: Gianluigi Mazzorana on 07 May 2006

I'm starting this thread because one of the last nights my good friend and i did talk about oil paintings.
Money aside having fine painting art pieces in my house is one of my best, pipe dreams!
Smile

A start with this: Rembrandt - The night watch or The Militia Company of Captain Frans.
Saw it in Amsterdam as well as other and others' painter.

As yes - the God's-eye view. I saw it a few years ago in Edinburgh - it's quite a thing.

As with most things in life my favourite painting changes on an irregular basis.

This one. "Brudeferden i Hardanger" - The Bridal Journey in Hardanger.
by Hans Gude and Adolph Tidemand. Tiedemand painted the people and Gude the nature.
I love the colour and the happiness in the picture.

Or:

"Vinternatt i Rondane" - Winternight in Rondane by Harald Sehlberg.
Oh my.

I would love to have Georgia O'Keefe's painting of Ranchos de Taos Church

but I have to make do with with an image by an original Wright of the same subject

Erratum

I am ashamed to say that I spelled Georgia O'Keeffe's name incorrectly even though I have a copy of the Catalogue Raisonne of her work at my side.

Based on the practices of this forum I must now fall on my puck and fade away

I'd rather like to own the new sunken room in the Orangeries in Paris with those huge Monet originals. I could make a hell of a sweet noise down there with my Naim electronics and six Quad ESL57s. And not just in Debussy.

I was in London a few years back when I saw the painting below in the Dali Exhibition at the old County Hall (next to the London eye).

I'm not a big fan of his 'melting clock' stuff, but this is an amazing painting from his 'relogious period'. The painting is called Rubus Incombustus, or, as I understand it, 'The bush that was not burnt'.

I've never seen a print of this painting, but I'd love one! There's so much 'energy' in it.
