Sir Bobby Robson RIP

Sir Bobby Robson has died aged 76.
I am so glad I went to see him get great such a great reception at his charity match on Sunday, when 33,000 turned out at SJP. A great send off for a great man. I knew he did not have long, but I am still shocked. A real gent and a great football man.

A gentleman of the game. Always came across as a really good natured man.
Saturday came just in time.
RIP Sir Bobby.

Very very sad news. Don't know what to say - Sir Bobby was the greatest - gave our club the best time in its history - revitalised English football - proved that nice guys can win.
RIP - Sir Bobby - we'll all miss you greatly.

Can I offer (as a fanatical Sunderland fan) genuine condolences - he was a true footballing gentleman - and fully deserves all the praise his passing has prompted - RIP Wor Bobbie

How very sad. A lovely man and a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.
A sad, sad day for football.
I find myself genuinely touched by his passing.

Very sad to hear this today. RIP Sir Bobby, the nicest man in football and one of England's greatest managers.

Very sad to hear of his passing. There are very few of his calibre and gentility left in the game.
As a postscript, I hope all those at Newcastle who treated him so shabbily feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

No hope of that. Shepherd and co have skins thicker than the average rhino.
You can add the tabloids to that wish though. The same people who tried to destroy his England managership are today full of gushing tributes. Pass the sick-bag.
Great man who will be sadly missed by many.

From Steve Bruce today speaking at our friendly at Celtic (SAFC fans had sung "there's only one Bobby Robson" before and after the match)
I must pay a special tribute to Sir Bobby Robson. He became a big, big friend of mine over the last few years in particular. The reaction of the Sunderland fans today was how things should be. They know he's from the north east - he's one of us and it's a sad loss to football. His children have lost a terrific father and his wife Elsie has lost a good man and her husband. Life always seemed to be better when Bobby was around. There was always a twinkle, always a sparkle and he made you feel life was worth living. For that, he will be remembered as a special person.

Jet,
The tributes from all areas of the region say all there is to say about Sir Bobby. Your earlier quote was indicative of the mood across the North East. The respect shown has been noted by all.
Regards

Everyone else will forgive me for picking on ROTF's post to quote, but you will allow me to stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow ITFC fan!
I was on holiday at Southwold when I heard the news, and was touched by it - so, glad to have been in the old County at the time. And to have got the EADT's tribute, written in best local paper-eese (East Anglian Daily Times).
ITFC's real glory days under the Gaffer - FA Cup, UEFA Cup, missing winning the League again by a whisker - are such a part of the soundtrack of my teenage years.
