Dear Howard,

Honestly! What are you like! I find someone in agreement with me! Nothing like the Smurfs, in my view!!!!

Surprised that Pinky and Perky missed your list of five though. Perhaps they count as two!

ATB from George

PS: The other day I had a shock. I realised that though I had heard of James Blunt, I thought I had never heard him sing a song on the Radio. Then I was told that this what I thought was a girl singing was in fact James Blunt - I realised I was acquainted with his perfomances! Oh dear! How things are improving. I think it is time for a Pinky and Perky revival.

It was quite upsetting the way Pinky and Perky spilt up. It was all down to Perky's drinking and rather unnecessary behaviour and not as the press reported at the time because of musical differences.

Anyway here are the aforementioned duo from a rare tape of the Crackerjack sessions - please click - they were a very big influence on the Ramones.

I assumed favourite rather than most talented or I'd have included Rolf Harris instead of Max.

Apparently their influence was rather wide!

I thought I'd struggle with this, as I much prefer the female voice, but in the end it was quite easy:

Al Green
Mark E Smith
Tim Buckley
Leonard Cohen
Ian Curtis

Al Green is my number one, now and always, but the rest are in no particular order.

Not all technically great (does MES eally *sing*?!) but all have voices perfectly adapted to their musical vision.

Regards
Nigel

P.S. used up my five, but I hope someone will put in a good word for Robert Wyatt!

Dear George

They really were a dynamic duo.

The documentary I was referring to was assembled by Danny Baker for his 1993 TV Heroes series: Toughest gig of all - Pinky and Perky (should open in Real Audio, but is sadly not available in its entirety).
