Ludwig van Beethoven; Works for Piano, Vol. 6, Deutsche Grammophon 453 733-2
The c-, 32 variations are at the top of my all-time favorite pieces (also have been working for years at learning this on the piano). The Kempff recording here would be on my desert island lists as this is my benchmark recording. From the start I'm hooked by Kempff's rhythmic, joyful, and lighthearted but focused playing and interpretation here. The subtle and controlled climax in the last variation is worth it all to me and is the best I could ever imagine.
(Couldn't find a cover picture)
From CD 5:
Olli Mustonen, piano
5) 7 Variationen (C-dur) über "God save the King" Wo0 78 (1802-03). Olli Mustonen, piano
6) 5 Variationen (D-dur) über "Rule, Britannia" aus der masque "Alfred" von Thomas Arne Wo0 79 (1803). Olli Mustonen, piano
7) 32 Variationen (c-moll) über ein eigenes thema Wo0 80 (1806). Wilhelm Kempff, piano
8) 6 Ecossaisen Es-dur Wo0 83 (c. 1806). Wilhelm Kempff, piano

That reminds me to bring my bike up from the basement. Nothing I can do about iPod since I don't have one. Thanks for recommending this music for all times.

This is an excellent album, altogether; the production is great (you can hear everything quite clearly--quite a production feat for a group like the Ozrics), and the inspiration is there in truckloads .

"Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, cause y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe...I was not offended, for I knew I had to rise above it all, or drown in my own s**t."
It gets better, way better, this has to be on the list of ablums to listen to before you die
This album is a definitive acid funk psychedelic journey. Including the legendary "Maggot Brain", where guitarist Eddie Hazel takes you into a dreamy realm of space and emotion. "Hit it and Quit it" is an amazing funk jam with one of the baddest riffs in all of funk. Eddie Hazel is Jimi Hendrix's funk clone.

This is simply among the very best albums of any genre, any era since the birth of rock and roll. Nowhere can you find a combination of haunting lyrics with a voice to match and a producer willing to keep his fingers off the controls.
