I'm listening to a lot of Nina recently. Hearing Nina or Billie sing 'Strange Fruit' is one of the most moving and emotional moments on any recording for me.

I'm not familiar with that song. I will have to search it out. Thanks for mentioning it.

I forgot what a great album this is -
straight ahead in every way
great guitar licks, solid rhythm section and one of the best rock singers ever. Maybe not quite in percy's class but very nice for a change of pace.

I am so surprised!
Put this on thinking it would be boring!

But, not only has this passed my audition for ‘musik to bubble bath to’ but I’m actually enjoying this orchestra. Very spacious sound, nicely balanced, great use of drums here and there, even the brassy bits have swing, and it's got me relaxed, this is really quite good! : )

Or is this just the delirium from my flu head fever?

nymph

nymph,

Swinging Safari is also very good.

Lateralus by Tool

Last Saturday, I escaped having to watch Hannah Montana - The Movie with Mrs S and 8 nine year old girls and sneaked off to the local record shop for a mooch. I picked up a near mint picture disc of this and am home alone tonight so playing it for the first time...

This album has been highly praised by one or two here (and elsewhere) whose taste overlaps my own (yes, that's you JamieL).

First listen, very impressed. I can understand how you prefer this to the more recent heavier PT (I prefer their earlier stuff). It is very differnt to what I normally listen to (my normal diet being late 70s - early 80s post punk/new wave whatever) and of course the mighty VdGG!

Will definitely be spinning this again soon.

I am delighted you like this album. You have managed quite a rare feat by liking this on first listening.

Perhaps since you like 'Pawn Hearts' you are prepared for something this abrasive and complex.

So glad mine and others praise of the album has introduced it to you.
