The Beta Band - The Three EPs
This is has been a slow burner, initially hindered by the lo-fi production of early Beta Band material. Patience has rewarded though and the music is breaking through all the time.
Here's the overview from Amazon which might help you part with £4.98
Citing influences ranging from the decidedly serious Martin Sheen to the asinine Chevy Chase to funkmaster Bootsy Collins, the Beta Band is a delight. This aptly titled compilation of three separately released EPs is sure to leave music fans scratching their collective head while trying to define this Scottish band's intricate aural hodgepodge. The Beta Band makes a very distinct and exciting impression. There's the unusual coupling of acoustic guitar, horn, sampled beats, and a catchy refrain on "Dry the Rain"; the hypnotic instrumental "B+A"; and "She's the One," which opens with a chaotic, hippyish drum circle that segues first to an anthemic chorus and then to a highly processed breakdown complete with a Jew's harp. The Three EPs will dominate the CD player, becoming somewhat of an obsession, with each listen revealing some brilliant little nuance, quirk, or lyric.
BTW "Dry the Rain" featured in High Fidelity, which made me by the CD in the first place. I have also ordered the DVD, which should have an affinity with most of us here

Stefan,
I liked it from first hearing but I am enjoying it even more now that my mind had ironed out the wrinkles. Difficult music though, and a handkerchief comes handy for wiping the sweat.

Decca LP @ 1970 (Original price sticker reads: 19 shillings and 11 pence)
Could not find the actual cover picture, but it looks really naff anyway.
This is excellent condition vinyl, for it's age. The Peter and the Wolf side is okay but one of so many versions, many newer versions are far more interesting.
Side two is a super example of Prokofiev's Symph no.1 ~ this album side alone makes this record very good value, cost about 10 pence : )
