Queen: Greatest Hits Volume 2.

Now I know that there are not many Queen fans around here, and there are others who will argue that music created and mixed in a recording studio can never be as sublime as a live chamber orchestra, but I don’t care. For sheer enjoyment and thrill, I have been in Seventh Heaven with this album.

In particular the tracks “Headlong” and “The Invisible Man” have become firm favourites with their driving bass lines and gut thumping percussion. Hey, at times the effect is delightfully scary, and that is with the volume knob at no more than 9:30. But that is not to say that is the sum total of what is going on in these, and other tracks in the album. I have found that there is quite a tapestry in there and I am glad of a system that is able to portray the details and intricacy of the music in all its glory. Just as a work of art needs to be well lit, so my system illuminates the music.

Time and time again, when the final notes fade, I am left with a smile on my face and a feeling of contentment in my heart.

So my recommendation is to grab this album, don't pre-judge it - just enjoy the experience.

One of my favorite recordings, Billie's voice touches me like no one else's.

Personally Aretha does it for me but this is one heck of album. Can honestly say it was the first time I could sit and listen to a Billie disc all the way through without getting fed up listening to it.

So much so I wnet out and bought another couple.

My wife has just called me from Guildford to tell me that David Gilmour was in the car next to her in a traffic jam and gave her a nice big smile. Smile Thought I would play a few tracks then.

Sidney Bechet - complete Blue Note Masters. It's clouded over, but I just fancied hearing his version of Summertime. Once you hear that tone of his, then it's difficult not to keep the disc spinning. Not necessarily one of the great innovators, and perhaps leans a little too much towards his New Orleans roots, but can't see this offending anyone. Who cares, I likes it.

As One and 'Planetary Folklore'. I like most of the Mo Wax label output, but this is one of my favourites - always reminds me of summer.

On Vinyl: TOJP-7083

If this was being marketed by Carlsberg they would say "this is probably the best LP, side 2 in the world" Smile The words of the songs are so ingrained it's like remembering "The Lords Prayer" Winker

I went into HMV Worcester (city) to buy the new Andy Sheppard album on cd and they didn't have it, so I spent my pocket money on this instead...

A rare foray into contemporary rock/pop (for me), but Natasha Khan (aka BfL) is a star, and deserves our support.
