Familiarising myself with some tunes before the concert tomorrow night. I've a feeling that "visually" it could be quite a show!

An "in car" find on CD:-
It's bit noisy, and those naughty words as well.
Always get the impression of showiness over quality content. Take your iPod and watch.

I don't doubt it for a minute! Still, I'm sure Mrs markah and my daughter will love it, and combined with a nice meal out and a few beers will be a good evening.

Really enjoying this album but every time I play " Glad " the piano reminds me of Charlie Brown .

gordon great choice. I was sitting on the train at victoria station a little uninspired about what to play for my journey home and you posted this gem. Of the 8/900 ECM albums I own, this would be in my top 5. One of the first I bought years ago it has such a superb band with abercrombie, john Taylor, holland and erskine and then the beautiful wheeler trumpet. And then the tunes are great as well. The train is running 30 mind late but this is soothing the pain.quote:Originally posted by Voltaire:![]()

I couldn't agree more Adrian!
I have so fallen in love with the ECM label that I am now even buying cd's!
To the accompany the torrential rain outside my french doors, one of your recommendations...

PS-8/900 albums on ECM...there goes my saving money then..

I have this album (slightly different cover)and I am ashamed to admit that I have never listened to it.
I shall remedy that in the morning.

I'm not familiar with the film Funeral in Berlin, but have seen The Ipcress File, with Michael Caine starring as a Brit Supercool Sexy-spy 'Harry Palmer'.
My first impression of the music on this soundtrack, is it's mainly okay, quite good, with a few excellent tracks in too.
But, experience has shown me that, when having watched the film, one rather likes the soundtrack much better, so i've ordered a dvd of Funeral in Berlin just to try out this theory. I've got a feeling it's probably a good film to watch on the telly, but not really worth buying the dvd for, but from amazon it's less than a fiver delivered so...

Yes it is addictive and it is a wonderful label. There is some music that is rather tough and a few albums I would not bother with but overall there is some fantastic music.
With ECM, and most modern jazz, you have to buy CD's. One of the reasons I have not bothered buying a turntable is that most of what I listen to is only available on CD. (only the more mainstream stuff seems to get to vinyl). ECM have gone 15 years and maybe 600 albums without releasing a scrap of vinyl. This year they have changed that and released two albums - Keith Jarrett and Enrico Rava on vinyl, but the other 48 albums they will release this year will be CD only.
There is a fair amount of old ECM vinyl still available new - here is a list.

Most of the ECM catalogue is available on CD but there are a number of gems from the early days that have never made it to CD. Each year, ECM release a few more of them on CD that had not made it before but for some albums secondhand LP's from ebay or something similar is the only way to get to hear them.
Here is a list of those albums not released on CD that you can search for secondhand. Not 100% accurate now as a few of them are available as Japan only CD release but generally correct.

Here is one of my fave ECM's that I recommend.

I never get tired of this wonderful album. One of those albums that I bought when I started out on my musical travels. After a tough week at work, this played loud sorts a few things out.

I have all of the Palmer films but still can't make my mind up whether I prefer the books. Funeral in Berlin is OK, but for Berlin I prefer the Spy Who Came in From the Cold and not just because of Richard Burton.
Currently listening to Casals playing Dvorak
