I like the new one, might have to go back and give this one a try as well - what do you think?
Their debut album blew me away, so i obviously i was looking forward to this when it was released. At the time i remember being dissapointed. BUT having not listened to either for some time i thought i would give this another go. For me it's a cracking album, i was trutting round the living to most of the album so it certainly had the desired affect on me.
The new album is out on monday here and i've pre-ordered the special addition disc. They are touring by me in August but i'm going to be out the country!

Paul
Thanks Paul.

I'm reading Things the Grandchildren Should Know and reached the point when he made this album. I'll play 'beautiful freak', 'electro-shock blues & this again before finishing E's fascinating book. You wouldn't want the 'luck' bestowed upon Mark Oliver Everett, but he makes exceedingly good music.

Great call ROTF.
I've got the Nait sweating this morning...far too loud (not big, not clever, just fun). On DVD through battered old NAD player, always surprises me at how it romps along...like a teenage Naim.

Hi Gordon,
I think so also, I don't have anything of his yet, but saw him on CBS Saturday Early Show earlier this year and was impressed. Thanks for the reminder.

This album is a real grower and some superb tracks on it. An album for quiet reflection. I bought it on release in 94 I think at the FNAC store in Bordeaux and played it for a couple of weeks whilst cooking great meals, drinking red wine and staying in a lovely French farmhouse. Perfect music for the surroundings. I love the track Liten Visa Till Karen and then the tracks that follow are excellent as well.
It is a drummer's album but the piano of John Taylor is really at the forefront. If you like it then you could try this band's debut and their third album

Other Erskine albums that are very good but different - non ECM - are

An album from 2003, this is my favorite purchase of 2009 so far: Brian Vander Ark "Resurrection"

Adrian,
I like the sound of that.
Can you get it on vinyl??
Stu
Yes you can. One of the old ECM vinyl releases still available.

Not easy listening (in fact quite tuneless in many places) so you might want to try it out first on Spotify - look up Christy Doran. Not one I play often.

Just found this "dual disc" and is blown away by the music. Tried a comparison of the 44.1/16 CD on the CD5X Vs hires on the Transporter, cannot tell the difference, both excellent and highly recommended.
