Gordon you are playing some good albums. I am at the Royal Festival Hall and have just seen The Bad Plus play a short but superb set. Check them out really good modern piano jazz trio. Now waiting for Charlie Haden and his Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley and Robert Wyatt. How I love a good night of live world class jazz.quote:Originally posted by Voltaire:![]()

Hello Haim,
Thank You for recommending Alpha! ; )
I especially like 'Quatre chemins de mélancolie' before bedtime, to me it has that dreamy quality which is far more agreeable than melancholy. I always sleep well after it anyway...
i over-slept today by 2 hours : )

A wonderful song called 'Verdi cries' sung by Natalie Merchant and a rare version by the sublime June Tabor.

Isn't that off the 10,000 Maniacs first album V?

quote:In My Tribe was 10,000 Maniacs' second (and best) album and the record that made the band collegiate favourites and singer/songwriter Natalie Merchant a star. Producer Peter Asher's rich balance of acoustic and electric instruments gave muscle to the group's folk-rock. "Hey Jack Kerouac" found Merchant musing on the literary beats of the 1950s but the song's musical hook was the rich bed of rhythm guitars laid atop the solid drums. "Don't Talk" offered a similarly propulsive rock sound, with lyrics that advised troubled lovers to keep it to themselves. REM singer Michael Stipe offered hipster credibility by guesting on "A Campfire Song", while a cover of Cat Stevens's "Peace Train" offered listeners a familiar port of entry. However, when Muslim convert Stevens announced his support of Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini's call for the execution of Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie, the band rereleased the album without "Peace Train". --John Milward

That is actually wrong info as 10,000 Maniacs had 1 album out before they were signed to Elektra called Secrets of the I Ching and it was later relased along with the EP Human Conflict Number 5 as Hope Chest.
That in turn makes In My Tribe their 3rd album.
Secrets isn't a great album
