New buy on the way home from the docs, 2nd hand CD cheap as chips and funkier than a mosquito's tweeter (apparently)

Why might anyone be interested?
To gain a seconds relief from the inanity that is our existence upon this world. Maybe I have been listening to too much Peter Hammill?
This will always be one of my favorite Miles albums, great movie too.

Why? Because I wasn't too impressed on first listening, still only three out of five stars for me.

'Phaedra' by Tangerine Dream.
Why, because I was surprised to hear 'Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares' used for several minutes in Charlie Brooker's rather excellent 'Newswipe' on BBC4.
Staurt, will be interested to see what you make of the Miles Davis second great quintet box set. For me some of his hardest music to get into, although I am starting to appreciate 'Footprints'.

Why? ... because it just arrived and I have the day off.

With the good company of Bobo Stenson & Anders Jormin.

OK, Adrian, I have made up my mind, after listening to the new Redman three times in a row (partially because I was too lazy to stand up. It's late, here...)
This is a FABULOUS album. Please, consider giving it a serious try in the evening hours. I am interested to hear your feedback !
cheers
Stefan

A great album from a few years back with great tunes ranging from rock to ska. Oops! It came out in 1980. Holy s**t!Make that a little more than a few years back.

Why?
Because its a very good album.
I only want to play track one a few times as a test for my Macbook/Lavry DA-10 through my Active SBLs.![]()

Stuart, if you only play track 1 'Dead Already', and probably track 12 'Any Other Name' you might have a look at the 'Original Motion Picture Score' album to the same film.
Soundtrack albums are compilations fo all the tracks that are in the film, sometimes sneaked in the end credits, or on a fuzzy radio in the background as a sort of cash in/promotion. The Score is the music that you remember from the film, and beautifully recorded, a but overly dynamic to underline points in the film.
Not all Soundtrack albums are bad, some are excellent, especially when they paint the period of the film through the music,Vietnam War films come to mind.
Glad you are enjoying the Miles Davis box set, Tony Williams was an amazing drummer.

I agree - "Foreign Intrigue" is one of my favourites by him, and an incredible recording on Blue Note. Cheesy cover though.
I will have to try some of that Miles Davis.

Thanks for the tip Munch - I'll put an order in.

Why? ... because it's a MoFi and the colour of the spine is so different from any other MoFi.

That's a good record MilesSmile!
I am listening to some noise...
This one is not as good as Below the Waste but more interesting on vinyl at least.

Why? ... because I'm not going to church on Sunday.

Gordon - how did you get on with it?
Excellent, really enjoyed it. It's much more laid back than my usual early 20th century jazz but it will for sure be getting played again!
Any other recommendations greatly appreciated.

SANDS OF GOLD & SWEET MEMORIES by WEBB PIERCE
(on MoFi Silver)
Why? ... because it's so obscure you can't even find a pic of the album on the web.

Not really fair to Mr. Pierce, the Opry elected him as one of their "All-Time Greats of Country and Western". After an unprecedented 21 #1 hits on the country charts, Mr. Pierce hosted his own county variety show on ABC Television in the late 50's.

Some more from my recent splurge at the 2nd hand store. I mistakenly lent this to a friend and then was dumb enough to leave the country for reclaiming it. It's been nagging as a repurchase for a while and now it's mine again. Spiritual, uplifting music and a great way to start the day.
Higher Ground by the Blind Boys of Alabama. From the Real World website:
"The Blind Boys of Alabama are old lions of gospel music, performing together for over 60 years. On this album they are backed by pedal steel phenom Robert Randolph and his Family Band, most assuredly young lions, who also come from the church. Add the multi-talented Ben Harper on several songs and the result is a record that is at times traditional and respectful, at others contemporary and playful, but always soulful and inspired."
Now, Humph and Elkie. Always loved Humph's radio shows whether comedic or jazz related. This cost €2,99 and is well arranged, doing exactly what it says on the tin and shows you don't need to be a pretty young thing to sing or play - great chops across the board, would appeal to anyone who likes female vocal jazz / blues.
