Hi Haim, thank you. Hopefully you get an extra day-off, as well. Very hot out here (90's F) and probably it will hit the midwest mid-week coming. But next Tuesday we are forecast for a low of 39 F, go figure.

Good listenin'

Although this record features several performers that have not received much attention (to my knowledge anyway) it has been one of my favorites since I first bought and played it a little more than a year ago. The front line horns play with superb harmony and the soloing by both performers showcases lots of bold and fresh improvisations. They are well supported by the rhythm section and the comping and soloing by Richard Wyands on piano makes me wonder why he was not featured on more albums from this era. Definitely recommended.

Just realized that I could not complete tonight's listening session without this classic, featuring the sadly recently departed Johnny Griffin in a live performance during his all too short (IMV) tenure with Monk. Griffin plays with passion and fervour (and yet also with something of a sneaky sense of humour) and his occasional grunts and exclamations of delight are very contagious in communicating the spirit of this outing. In my view, he was just as good a foil for Thelonious in the 50s as the more widely celebrated Charlie Rouse in the 60s. A must have recording for anyone who appreciates Monk's somewhat eccentric but absolutely delightful music.

Level 42 - The Early Tapes. With the fantastic bass from Mark King, this is one of my all time favourites. For anyone who wants to hear the masters of early eighties brit funk and for would be bass players this album is a must.

The doctor ordered once a day until further notice. Cool

The cover is not quite the same, mine is the Japanese VDC-504 from 1983 and it packs quite a punch.

I played this last night on redbook and it did nothing for me. Will not be ordering the MOFI. Maybe I was in the wrong mood.

It is my favorite Rickie Lee Jones - the Mofi's SQ and detail is absolutely amazing.

Decided to play after watching this. I think Kate might sell a few tickets if she decided to tour Smile.

Mind you, if Cirque du Soleil brought the Love show to the O2, they might recoup their MJ losses.
