Sweet Billy Pilgrim - Twice Born Men
The CD arrived today. After one play and listening to the MySpace samples whilst typing I reckon this will be one my best albums of 2009. This is truly beautiful, with layered harmonies that pull you along wishing they would never end. A late night listen that will infuse calm after a taxing day.
Hope this helps, here is Rough Trades review...
remember how wilco's experimental album 'yankee hotel foxtrot' turned out to be simply a series of brilliant pop songs? same thing here. what makes 'twice born men' truly special is the way the indefinable floatiness of the verses is merely the springboard for a succession of delicious pop choruses. tinkering about somewhere between the earthy and the ethereal, sweet billy pilgrim scrape strings and tap away at laptops trying to make beautiful things with steady hands and empty pockets. it's the best album of its kind since elbow's all-conquering 'the seldom seen kid'. that the 30-voice choir finale...is all him is just one of many miracles this jewel yields. presented as ever in a beautiful digipak featuring exquisite artwork from the wonderful tactia dean and designed by chris bigg. on the samadhisound label.

Ben Harper - The will to live, on vinyl just arrived today. My 2nd favourite of his albums. Vinyl sounds great, seems to have more open sound (air?) than the CD versions of this album that I have

Superb Canadian 70's blues...
I hope I'm not breaking any rules (Adam)if I point out to any potential fans of this seminal blues album that there is currently a cd and vinyl copy for sale on ebay ( to which I have no connection).
I paid a fortune to import mine but worth every penny.

'British tenor John Potter and fellow countryman Ambrose Field, composer of electronic/digital music, offer a striking juxtaposition of Renaissance music and present-day technology: In seven interconnected pieces, vocal fragments from the songs and sacred works by Guillaume Dufay (1397–1474) soar beautifully above Ambrose Field’s vast and multi-faceted soundscapes.'

Sounds really interesting - one for my list, I think.
