Sounds really interesting - one for my list, I think.

I am playing it again right now. If you like Arve Henrisksen and Jon Hassell, well this has similarities but with Dufay and Potter it is of course different. I am liking it a lot but not an easy first listen. This one will grow and grow.

Melissa Etheridge & Joss Stone on Youtube doing a Janis Joplin tribute which was kindly provided for me by Gianluigi...

I like Joss Stone, I like her voice. It's such a shame that her/her record company chose that the way forward was to do Joplin/Springfield/etc covers. I wish she would release an album of really original material.

The second blow to Joss Stone's career was this wonderfully conceived duet with HRH Melissa Etheridge. Melissa is a 100% bonafida living legend. Very few people can even come close to her talent. She came out of chemo to sing this duet and whilst Stone held her own, it's like asking a newly commisioned priest to preach with Jesus and then see who gets the biggest response?

I always look for emotion in music and hifi. People like Cohen can inject more emotion into a single phrase than most people can in a lifetime, Melissa can inject more musicality, passion, sexuality and humanity in a single note than most people can in a lifetime.

IMHO, buy the debut album by Melissa and check out the duet with Joss Stone on youtube

I hope I'm not breaking any rules (Adam)if I point out to any potential fans of this seminal blues album that there is currently a cd and vinyl copy for sale on ebay ( to which I have no connection).

I paid a fortune to import mine but worth every penny.

Gordon

Gordon it is still available in Canada through Amazon.ca for the princely sum of 7.99 Canadian dollars.

Howard, If you can spare about 48 minutes the Mark Radcliffe interview is terrific. I remember hearing the original broadcast and recall his unashamed infatuation with Kate. It's easy to see why of course and she gives some wonderful insights into her recordings. What's also interesting is her views on people who prefer to listen to individual tracks and not an album in one sitting (the 2005 MP3 generation). Steven Wilson made us think his view on the iPod generation with short attention spans (in 2007) for the FOABP concept was his (current) observation. It would seem that Kate had already reached that conclusion. Young bertie has a clever mum who happens to be Cool
