I am discovering more favorites everyday and will happily recommend a couple when I'm a bit more familiar with them...and yes,

Spotify is fab for this.

Just thought I would catch up with Toyah Willcox and her new band The Humans. The video for the song 'Quicksilver' might explain why Mr Fripp looks a bit tired these days.

Bought 300 second hand LPs from a Pink Fisher the other day, so am slowly trawling through the ones that catch my eye. What is interesting is listening to stuff I definitely wouldn't buy left to my own devices and listening to things that I knew well many years ago. To me that's one of the great things that vinyl always had going for it - you can't programme tracks nor can you just download one track from an album - you get the whole thing and mostly you end up listening to the whole LP sooner or later and you find songs you love - hidden gems, say. Anyway here are some of them:

Just for I nearly cut my hair today and Helpless alone...

Stu,
JM playing on "Covered In Rain" on disc 2 is what made me a fan. But also, the four piece group keeps the tunes simple and gets to their core. Good stuff.

There was a time when I regarded Wayne Shorter's output as a leader as running a distant second to his performances supporting Miles Davis as part of the latter's "second great quintet". However, my views on this have changed quite radically with time and I am now a huge admirer of this fantastic musician whether as a leader or sideman.

Recorded just a few weeks prior to Miles' production of the famous Miles Smiles album, this outing features Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock supported by Reggie Workman (from John Coltrane's then group) and Joe Chambers. Every song is beautifully executed - Shorter's playing is notable for its superb lyricism while Hancock really shines while either comping or soloing - the poise and articulation that have always distinguished his playing are on full display on this album. My favourites here are "502 Blues", "El Gaucho", "Footprints" and "Chief Crazy Horse", but in fact the entire album is gorgeous and no-one puts a foot wrong at any time. Highly Recommended, especially for those who are fans of the "post bop" genre pioneered by Miles' second quintet, to which Shorter's writing was such an essential contribution.
