Nah - the Gabriel remasters are pretty good and I also have the original pressings - in fact this is the first CD I ever bought back in 86.

I've got almost the complete collection of Genesis Black Triangles now. Cost me a small fortune and I am not sure I hear much difference to the original UK pressings. More listening to be done but that is probably my black triangle career completed. Can't keep up with you on these things Roll Eyes

Why? Spinnning The Velvet Underground doesn't need a reason.

All this Tull-talk has got me digging out some old stuff. On vinyl, the dodgiest Tull album artwork imo, but some good moments on this...

Besides the leader and Philly Joe Jones, the musicians on this album are not very well known to me, but it fully vindicates my rule of thumb that Philly Joe (like Paul Chambers) rarely (maybe never) played on an album that wasn't worth buying. Lots of swinging and imaginative playing that will keep your feet tapping and have you coming back for another listen time after time. As with a lot of music of this type (IMV anyway), the contrast between the sounds of the horns used (Byrd on trumpet and Pepper Adams on baritone sax) also makes for very compelling and emotive soloing by each (as well as a sumptuous blend when they play together) and generally adds to the overall freshness and excitement of the tunes played. Well worth a listen by any hard bop fan.

Milt Jackson and the Thelonious Monk Quintet,
Blue Note 1509 (on CD)

Can't find a pick of this OOP title, apparently the original Lexington Avenue vinyl pressing sells for a few hundred dollars. Eek
