Jackie McClean has grown steadily on me over the past few years, and this outing from him is one of my current favourites (has been for quite a long time, actually.)

Rubinstein/Chopin
'66 Release. Original RCA Dynagroove Stereo.

This album really showcases the sublime talents of Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter, as evidenced especially by their playing on the track "Yama" which IMV is one of the most achingly beautiful pieces of music I have heard. However, the entire album offers a host of treasures and outstanding performances by all at hand and is well worth a try by anyone interested in hard bop jazz (or simply great music for that matter).

Piet Kiel Jr. playing the schnitger organ in the church of St.Laurence, Alkmaar

Compositions by: Henry Purcell (1659-1695), John Stanley (1713-1786), John Travers (1713-1758), Mathew Camidge (1754-1844), and William Walond (1725-1770)

CBS Records @ 1974

Some nice perky organ tunes on this mint condition LP amazingly no surface noise at all and this a 35 year old record! Can't play this loud enough right now, the morning is too quiet and i don't want to wake the neighbours, but i'll play it again later with the right amount of volume : )

I'm playing the Pastmasters right now, a very good alternative to the Black Triangle.

I am looking forward to getting home later to have a listen. What are your first impressions Stu? This is probably going to be my soundtrack to the rest of 2009. Let's hope for another PT cracker.
