As the news filters through of the Oasis breakup I thought I'd play some great music from Manchester. Big Grin

It's sounding pretty good, but should be even better in about 3 weeks as I am going for the Radikal motor and power supply. You are very welcome to come and have a listen, so we need to set something up.

I bought my vinyl copy at HMV last year and not played much. On the LP12 now and enjoying the variety of sounds. Fabulous artwork, that cannot be appreciated with a CD.

Another unplayed piece of vinyl heard earlier, a fav of Doug Graham I seem to remember. "The Lotus Hour" with Diane Christiansen doing the vocals and some subtle slide guitar played by Al Perkins is very good.

Haim,
What is your opinion on the Keith Jarrett, Haendel Suites? Do you have any of his other ECM Bach recordings? I've been wondering about these for some time..

John Eliot Gardiner's / Bach Cantata series on SDG, vol. 4. Five Cantatas for the Sixth and Seventh Sunday after Trinity (BWV 9, 107, 170, 186, and 187) and recorded live at the Ansbach Bach Festival and at St. Mary's church in Haddington, Scotland in July and August 2000. Also included is the motet Der Gerechte kommt um. Once attributed to Bach, this beautiful five-voiced motet was composed by Johann Kuhnau.

Piano Magic - Low Birth Weight (on brown vinyl)

Not played for a long time and with it being so bloody depressing, I can see why. Some good tunes though and again great artwork.

Need to check my blood is still circulating, so this black stuff might help...

Doug,

This is one of my favorite Handel. I always preferred the composer's smaller scale music and I think the Jarrett has an exceptional insight into these suites and he plays them with a light and thoughtful touch, a style similar to Hewitt's Bach playing. I highly recommend the disc.

The only other Jarrett playing classical music that I have (also very good) is Handel's recorder sonatas where he is playing the harpsichord with Michala Petri on the RCA label:

By the way, how is the Sviatoslav disc?
