I'd been looking forward to this show and it doesn't disappoint.

23rd edition of acclaimed web show features the duo performing an eight-song set of originals and classic covers, including songs by The Soul Survivors, Average White Band

NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2009 - Both Daryl Hall and Todd Rundgren shared a love of the street-corner doo-wop harmonies and soulful R&B they grew up listening to from the groups in their hometown of Philadelphia, and now the two will join their equally distinctive voices for the 23rd and latest edition of the acclaimed, groundbreaking web series Live From Daryl's House on Sept. 15 at livefromdarylshouse.

Says Daryl: "Todd and I grew up almost in the same neighborhood and as kids we listened to and were influenced by pretty much the same musicians that were part of the creation of the sound of Philadelphia."

The two join forces on an eight-song set that includes Daryl Hall's War Babies song "Better Watch Your Back" (a 1975 live version from London of the War Babies track is included on the Sony Legacy four-CD box set, Do What You Want Be What You Are, coming Oct. 13 - the original 1974 LP was produced by Rundgren) and "Wait for Me" (a fans favorite from their 1979 album, X-Static, also featured on the compilation). In addition, Daryl and Todd perform Rundgren originals "Sweet," "Want of a Nail," "Sometimes I Don't Know What to Feel" and "Can We Still be Friends" and must-see versions of the Soul Survivors' hit, "Expressway to Your Heart" and Average White Band's "You Got It."

"It was great working with Daryl again, bookending the 37 years since my producing War Babies," says Rundgren of the Live from Daryl's House experience.

Reubs, I was listening to the second (live) version, though I have a copy of the original in my iTunes. I probably prefer the less polished first version - worth hearing just for Shay's "size 17 Chuck Taylor" line. (And it's cooler, natch).

Also somehow lodged in my iTunes, from the same year when the Neptunes could do no wrong, just found a Soulwax version of one of their finest efforts on my iPod:

Heh heh.

Never heard the Soulwax remix before - I'm going to have a dig around.

I remember seeing NERD at Brixton Academy when they brought on Justin Timberlake as well. Brilliant evening. I'm definitely going to make myself a playlist - "Bling like the Neptunes' sound" as Jay-Z would say.

Reubs, to be more accurate, the Soulwax version is a mashup of Miss Spears's song and Prince's Kiss - not something I own a physical copy of, it just landed on my computer one day. Worth tracking down.

Be sure to include this on your Neptunes playlist...

Edit: I'll have to make my own, including this...

this...

... not forgetting at least one of the songs they wrote for MJ that weren't good enough for him (!)

Tool - Ænima

I am in a state of severe shock, they used a bad word and there was no warning sticker, telling me "not buy this you pussy". Eek

Big Grin Big Grin Let me know how you get on with it. Some of my favourite Tool songs ("Stinkfist", "Forty Six & 2" and "Pushit") are on this album.

Bootleg copy given to me from a friend, who hasn't done a bad job with reproduction imho, although this CD-R comes with no infomation about track titles, so i don't know anything about what's being played, except it sounds a little daft in a few places, but very good in the main with quite a few excellent bits thrown in too! : )
