ps any pointers on exploring Ani DeFranco ? I know she is well liked but don't know her music and I think I have seen you make some posts.
Hi Jeff,
Yes, enjoying the Kate Walsh album very much. Tim's House is also excellent and I got to meet up with her after a show last year. She is very sweet. I was hoping to get to see her again on the upcoming tour as she is playing the very small intimate venue near me that I saw Laura Veirs at last year (Telford's Warehouse in Chester) - unfortunately I'll be in Paris that night!

Ani DiFranco - if you are not familiar with any of her work then I would suggest go straight for "Canon", a double-disc compilation of her work. Stolen description here..........
"Throughout her career, Ani DiFranco has given her own take on tired rock star clichés. When other artists answered to major labels, she opted to start her own. While other guitarists relied on electric heroics, she pounded on a strangely tuned acoustic. And when faced with the task of releasing a career retrospective, Ani created anything but the traditional "greatest hits" package. With Canon, the double-disc set scheduled to hit stores on October 1, 2007, fans will get an unprecedented look at how the artist sees her prolific career, and newcomers will get the ultimate primer in DiFrancology. Like everything else she creates, Ani made this record to her precise specifications, carefully selecting 36 songs from her voluminous back catalogue, including tunes from her first album and her 18th.As a result, Canon doesn't play like a greatest hits package, but an album that's arranged and intended to be played from beginning to end. There are even some surprises along the way - a handful of re-imaginings of Ani classics, courtesy of the Little Folksinger, bassist and long-time collaborator Todd Sickafoose, and drummer Alison Miller. The trio busts out fresh, inspired versions of the Dilate gems "Napoleon" and "Shameless," as well as "Your Next Bold Move," "Overlap" and that simple, aching ballad and live staple that absolutely never gets old, "Both Hands." So while other "best of" projects get slapped together by labels to fulfil artists' contractual obligations, Canon represents the beginning of a new phase of Ani DiFranco's unabashedly unique career. Because sometimes, for us to move forward, there's nothing healthier than taking a long, fruitful look back."
All the best,
Mark

I dont think so, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the venue, dark and dingy and small. Had beers in the Swan and visited the cabin later.

Ok Jeff, let me know how you get on. I have introduced a few people to Ani through that album and have had no complaints so far! Like all her albums it is very well recorded/produced. She has quite a back catalogue of studio albums and a number of official bootlegs if you do take a shine to her.

Tamara Lindeman has a beautiful voice, another great find Diccus. I like the banjo playing as well. The Banjo also makes a great contributions to the music of The Leisure Society (who were great at the excellent Clayhill gig) and Sweet Billy Pilgrim. I think you might like both.
