'Signify' is a great album, my favourte by them.

Mark Kozelek 'Lost Verses Live', probably my album of the year for 2009, but there is a little time left.

Give it another month or so, and there should be a thread for people's favourite albums of this decade (yes I know technically 10 belongs to the 0's, and the millenium didn't start until 1 Jan 2001, etc.).

I have always favoured the later releases particularly FOABP but thoroughly enjoyed this one today. Better play Stupid dream now.

Adrian,

As PT are playing 'Buying New Soul' in the 2nd set, you might not have it in your collection. If you go to the new PT Media Player and scroll down to the audio of 'Recordings', it's there. I love it and one of the finest songs written & recorded by ANYONE, in my umble opinion Winker I don't have 'Recordings' (due next next year), but appears on the Japanese 'Deadwing' double CD I purchased a while back.

For me Porcupine Tree hit a golden period from 'Signify', through 'Stupid Dream', 'Lightbulb Sun' and to 'In Absentia'. Perhaps I am biased as that was when I got into them, and the 2000 tour was when I first saw them. The recording of the four piece line-up at 'Nearfest' in 2001 (radio broadcast I think) is one of my favourite recordings and sums up that period for me.

Much as I like 'In Absentia', I haven't found the five piece line-up as enjoyable live, very impressive, but a little cold. It might also be that the move from venues like The Scala to larger places makes the band more distant. They are also a lot heavier live, acoustic tracks like 'Where We Would Be' and 'Last Chance to Evacuate ...' were dropped, and tracks like 'Open Car' and 'Mother and Child Divided' took their place.

Will this make my copy worth less then? Last time I saw one on Epay it went for about £150 - though I'd never part with mine.

It will get a spin when Moonloop has finished.

For what it's worth, last night I played the long alternative version of The Sky Moved Sideways (34 minutes) - it is just so much better in so many ways than The Incident and despite its length it just flows naturally and has so many highlights.
