Howard, I must be going deaf or maybe just wanted it louder

Back to normal. Playing the Milk & Honey band at 9 o'clock is plenty loud enough though. If you like XTC, then you can buy this with confidence

It's been suggested that people who do not own a copy of this album are not real music lovers. I'm not sure about that, but I am sure that this is the one of the most accomplished albums of all time.
For me, the combination of Walker's beautiful voice, the intelligent lyrics, the intellectual references and the artists deep rooted perfectionism and fear of fame fuse into an album of sublime musicality.
From the opening homage to Bergman, 'The seventh seal', to the prisitine 'boy child', this album transcends both its time and its format and elevates the Breil-admiring reluctant star to mythical status.
The sleeve notes of my copy have an Albert Camus quote which sum up the album...
It was originally released under his real name and was deleted by his label shortly after due to dismal sales.
I recommend it.

quote:A man's work is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.

I recommend it.
quote:My life's a vain pursuit of meaningless smiles,
Why can't God touch me with a sign,
Perhaps there's no one there answered the booth
And Death hid within his cloak and smiled

The Rosslyn Mountain Boys - self titled. ( can't find an image atm)
These were a bunch of session musicians who worked with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, Vassar Clements, Bill Anderson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Loretta Lynn and Buck Owens before they signed to Adelphi Records in 1976 and recorded this wonderful rock a billy country album which they dedicated to the Shamrock Tavern.
The album sleeve thank Nils Lofgren of all people!
Wonderful seventies blue grass hillbilly country fun fest.

Steve - how did you get that - not out till Monday!
I cannot wait. I have been a fan for years and seen him live many times. He deserves far wider recognition and hopefully this will be his big break.

I would not recommend this as a place to see what is the fuss about Porcupine Tree.
That said it is hard to find the original cassette, where did you track it down?

Stu...if you like Kind of Blue, have a listen to two of my great faves. I love all Coltrane (I think his contribution to Kind of Blue is massive). Love Supreme is his masterpiece, but I love (and I'm listening to):![]()
The other Coltrane album I really rate is often overlooked Crescent that was recorded shortly before A Love Supreme

Because it's proper music, a bloke a guitar, an intellect, a story and an enormous rider. A man who is a cornerstone of our culture...(on old vinyl that crackles and pops like my old Linn integrated)

Although I enjoy Mr Johnson's originals King of the Delta Blues Singers, this modern interpretation by Peter Green is really worth a listen. If Robert Johnson had recorded with a band in a modern studio then he may well of sounded like this; we'll never know. What I can say is there is probably no finer interpreter of the great man than Peter Green.
