Re: Mara by Runrig: I bought this one earlier this week - very good imo.

Very good I agree, we are fans here. We saw them last year, at Bracknell whether it was the venue or the crowd, but there was no "soul" to the performance, unlike their live albums.
Very disappointing after looking forward to seeing them for a couple of years.
Still their albums we still enjoy.

Have you hacked my Amazon account as I also have this one winging it's way towards me, or did you also hear Riders on the Storm in the Naim room over the weekend? Big Grin

After hearing how bands including Air, Pulp, and Portishead all cite this album as an influence, I thought I'd give it a go.

It's easy enough to spot elements of Moon Safari and This is Hardcore, but I was surprised to discover that one of my favourite albums, Beck's Sea Change, borrows so heavily from this record. The distinctive strings and shuffling beats of Paper Tiger starts here:

As slightly bonkers 28 minute concept albums with dodgy subjects go, it's great.

Recommandé.

One of the handful of early Blue Note covers to feature a sketch by an almost unknown Andy Warhol...

Reid Miles's designs weren't half bad either, of course. I think I bought this Sonny Clark just for the cover...

Hope you are feeling better.

Thanks Nic, I remember you playing this album a long time back and praising it a lot. I then placed it in my vinyl order at the time as a result (and bought the CD).

So yesterday was the first try of the 45 RPM vinyl and the quality is superb and worth the cost. I feel better today as well so it did the trick.

I am having more of a CD day today enjoying some good albums.

Late night atmosphere from Max Richter.
