I pre-ordered the new Lislevand as well as the Stanko and Gustavsen. Those ECMs are still not available in the US. No choice, I have to play the old one.

Haim - the Stanko album is excellent. Again, he has surrounded himself with a new set of young jazz musicians who do a superb job. If you waited to buy it stateside, you would have to wait until next March.

Gustavsen also is a good album. Different from the three trio albums to date and the biggest difference being a vocalist - Kristin Asbjornsen - as well as the addition of Tore Brunborg on sax. Not as immediate as his other albums but one I have quickly warmed to.

HEP, born in Liverpool, is the former leader of the Stands. Great Dylanesque sound to his current stuff.

And I thought that we were only six hours behind you guys..

Thanks for the information, Adrian. The problem is that they hardly import any German made ECMs to the States and we have to wait for BMG to manufacture them (with a slightly inferior sound) here. That is why I received the new (almost old now) Brahem just last week and still waiting for the Bollani disc that you have been posting left and right.

Have a good Sunday,

Haim

I won't mention anymore Jenny Lin and her Shostakowich Piano Preludes. I listen to it every day.

this album has held up well with the passing of time, great session players, great jazzy feel to it.

Sergey Rachmaninov played by Helene Grimaud on Denon.

I believe this was the first recording by Helene Grimaud and she was probably 16 years old at the time. Listening to this still amazes me. Even from the start you can hear the musicality and mature insight into the music...

2. Non allegro
3. L'istesso tempo - Allegro molto

Etudes-Tableaux, for piano, Op. 33

6. No. 3 in C minor, Op. posth.
7. No. 5 in D minor, Op. posth.

Thanks for reminding me of this record. I had a chance to see Yusef at that time and loved what he was doing.

Anthony

Hi Anthony

Yes, Yusef Lateef is a great artist, i too love the extraordinariness of his music, and particularly how it can cross over the jazz-rock-classical boundaries so seamlessly.
I'm relatively a resent fan, so lucky enough to be looking forward to exploring more of his music which i know differs greatly from album to album : )

Great album anyway but even better for relaxing after a day spent shopping in London.

Doug,

Those early Denon discs sounded real good, not to mention Helene Grimaud. You made me go and search for one of hers to which I haven't listened to for a very long time. She is playing here the Brahms Piano Sonata No.3 & 6 Klavierstucke, Op.118. She was 22 years old when she recorded this music in 1991.

Haim

The Bench Connection

I believe this is discontinued, but is still available as a download at Amazon. I am indebted to C P here for making me aware of this wonderful music. Acoustic pop lovers should consider checking this out.

I have a pile of new music which I purchased today (armed with Jeff A's music room posts on my Blackberry) which I keen to premiere, but I can't stop playing this superb album by the wonderful Ani Difranco...

She has an acerbic view on the male species which I should find offensive but I don't. I adore it.
