I've mentioned this album about four times in this thread and no one's said a word.
Chief, there is a rather good shop in Surry Hills Sydney called Title that specialises in good music like this and film. I had a big bash in there a while back and bought quite a bit of Serge music.
I am going to give this one a spin as final disc of the night

quote:Excellent. Have been playing it a lot for the last two weeks off Spotify and the disc landed on the doormat this morning. So good, that I have decided that I have to go and see them on this tour so will be doing the journey up to Warwick to see them two weeks tonight. Looking forward to it.
My last Stanko concert was in a big church in Sydney on a balmy hot night and it was the wrong place for the band - no intimacy, too big. So I hope Warwick Arts Centre is a little better.
Cheers
Excellent. Glad you'll get to see this band live after all - here's hoping the Warwick Arts Centre is up to scratch.
I should have known you would also have recommended the Bebo & Cigala

Still sounding fresh today, this album is in a league of its very own. Essential.
Ok, ok... But I don't get any reaction either when I desperately try to distillate some French albums in this thread! Never dared to suggest Serge I must say.
Absolutely, totally and definitely agreed. Seminal.
(EDIT: Sorry. Munch did actually react positively.)

I've not seen this. That Benedikt Jahnel album you recommended has become a fave for me this year so will check this one out as well. Thanks - it's on spotify so will give it a listen.

At least this lady sounds great. Thank you Chesky. (Related to my post about Amy MacDonald, NOT to the post above!)

Phew, thanks Lontano and m0omo0.
Adrian, you've made me envious now with your Serge collection(!); m0o, please list some more French albums in this thread some time, I'll take a look.

As the title suggests, there is a space theme throughout, and they even do a cover of EST's "From Gagarin's Point of View". I think you'll like it.

To be honest not played them a whole lot since I bought them - bad habit of mine! Got Histoire de Melody Nelson, Comic Strip, 4 CD box set of Serge's film music from 1959-1990 and a 5 disc set of music from different stages of his career. Will try and play them properly soon.

My favourite E.S.T. song - playing it now - hope they do a good job on it!

Chief,
Now you've got us all in a French mood, here is one of my faves. One more album before some sleep then.

I done a lol.
Adrian/m0o, I like the sound of Jean-Claude Vannier's L'Enfant Assasin Des Mouches album, made with a little help from Serge:

I know I'm going to end up buying it, after reading some reviews. Here's what Jarvis Cocker makes of it: "This is one of those records that you really can't believe whilst you're listening to it; maybe someone spiked your drink? Or maybe you are actually dreaming, it doesn't really exist? So you put it on again just to check, pinching yourself to make sure. Yep, here it comes again - insane guitar? Check, unhinged orchestra? Check, demented choir? Check. Haunted by the ghost of Gainsbourg this record is real, you really need it in your life."
Nice beach.

I hope you're kidding ?! (Or - you're only qualifying the music, not the sound; or - you've got the MoFi edition from 2049; or - I'm deaf. (If I listen to it too often, I will.))

Sounds ace - any review that mentions Stereolab, Gilles Peterson, Serge, Burt Bacharach, Francoise Hardy, Scott Walker, and Tusk all in one paragraph, gets my vote. Keep them coming.
Just found this and got it on (thanks, Adrian). It's erm... different:

G'nite, Maurice.

Polnareff is on Spotify as well. It really is a very impressive resource for testing out potential musical purchases.

Yes, it's 'Classical Has Beens of the 80's' night here at big Bro's.
Not a bad disc, though.

Track 13 on this.
It is also on Return of the Manticore - a superb compilation with an inflated price tag.

Thanks I'll look into getting that, I only have it on vinyl.
