James Blackshaw - The Cloud of Unknowing

Fast-fingered guitar picking resulting in a shimmering, mesmerising album. Even the sorbet of the middle track (to freshen the palette) works.

It's by no means perfect, but it's really very lovely. I've listened to James Blackshaw's more recent releases, and while I admire his attempt to break out into newer territory, this remains his masterpiece to date.

I am a neophyte (only own Blank Planet previously) but liked Incident from the first listen a few weeks ago.

Picked up about a year ago at a record fair for under a tenner, which is about the cost of a half decent bottle of wine which last about an hour or so.....

I'll admit to buying this for the great Reid Miles artwork...

Sounds pretty good too.

fama,

I found the sound to be bold and direct, none the less, warm and fluid. Telarc says that the disc was produced from Direct Stream Digital masters made during the recording sessions.

Thanks ,think I'll get it .I had experience of a Telarc jazz cd "Illuminations" that I thought was pretty lifeless ,most of my cds are in storage at the moment so I cant quite confirm my recollection.
