Who is it?
Stu
Molina & Johnson. I borrowed from a good friend.
Couldn't get my head around it at first but playing it again this morning and it has such beauty about it. Great album.

Amália Rodrigues - Fados Clássicos, volume II
Prompted by Haim's posting, I was listening to Madredeus (Ainda) last night, and am continuing the Portuguese flavour this morning with this fado classic.

Bootleg Flashback
Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons
Ohm, Portland, Oregon
Friday, June 28, 2002
live bootleg
Fun night past in Pdx. Ohm is a downtown club that for many years was known
as Key Largo. Early evening last night they were hosting a reception by the
Recording Arts and Sciences folks (think Grammys) so there where many
"industry" type folks "networking" or kissing ass, depending on your
perspective.
Jeff Trott Band came on shortly before 10 pm with an opener by a band member
on diggeree-doo (sp?). Then straight into a 45 minutes set of atmospheric
pyschedlic pop, masterfully presented. Incredible band: Jeff on guitars and
vocals, the phenomenal Nate Query (Decemberists) on bass, Jeff Anthony on drums, Kevin
Schriner on spacey keyboards, and James Beaton, a touring member,at times,
with Everclear on "conventional" keyboards. Andy McCullogh also joined at
times on addtional guitars.
Then the Jmos - bit differnt kind of music :~) soundman Jimmy B was driving this
hot-rodded 1968 Pontiac GTO with tiger-stripe painting version of a rock
band at 120 mph on a asphalt road with 50 foot drop-offs on each side,
threatening to crash at any moment. The exhileration was thick as a fog.
Full throttle, full frontal rock and roll. And Jimmy B steered that mofo
straight as an arrow. Thank god for the man who put white lines on the
highway. Minor sound sytem glitch at the beginning, dialed her in on the
first tune, and whooooooooooosssssshhhhhhhhh. Even the dj's, preparing for
the late night dancing segment, stopped what they were doin' and enjoyed the
ride, top down, hair in the wind.
Short trip (set) but well worth the gas money.

This live album of 1998 without special audiophile tricks still sounds super : very good guitar music, very nice sound in my Naim system.

Planning a holiday in Spain this year Oliver?
I was just telling my wife this morning - after going into the second winter in a row, it's about time for a vacation in the sun.

I've just been listening to this too. A very good new addition to the RLJ catalogue. Will be enjoyed by those of us who hold the original albums like Pirates and 'RLJ' close to our hearts.
Now a little bit of ..
