And this, bought it today and it's much less brutal and more grown up than i expected. Loved it.
Paul, Don't get me wrong, I love most things Pharrell, and In Search Of... has to be one of my most played albums of the last ten years, but I think Fly Or Die is terrible! It certainly seems to divide opinion.
Anyhow, a little more here...

(Just remembered I said a similar thing when you posted Two Suns only the other day. Ha ha.)

Tonight's play list
and not forgetting
And a new album out in February - it's been a long time, lets hope it is as good as grown to expect from this superb band.

Chief Chirpa...
Certainly you seem to shoot down my selections, good job i'm not timid. lol.
For your sins please tell me more of the Pharrell fellows output that you could happily recommend. He seems to take care with his production which is one of the reasons i enjoyed that terrible album.

Doug,
I saw it being released this week. How is it in comparison to the other four volumes?

Hi Haim,
Well this one is different in the sense that this is largely unknown music. It is music for these three individual ballets so the scale of each work is larger. What's clear to me is that I can hear little elements of the Preludes, for instance, pop up here and there. I've found volumes 1-4 to be indispensable and my benchmarks in this music. I have to listen to Volume 5 a few more times to get more familiar with the music before commenting too much. I would suspect that anyone who already has experienced Volumes 1-4 will want this regardless (me). It's more of a novelty though and not the place to start if you don't have any of the previous volumes.
Regards,
Doug

Haim,
I was trying to put my credit card on ice in the freezer for a bit as all my indulgences of the last couple of months are now showing up in the mail.... but you had to post something that looks very interesting. Is it as good as the Chopin-Godowsky (which I think is just wonderful)?

Thanks, Doug.
Is Bavouzet done with his fifth volume or is there more Debussy to be recorded by him? I have enjoyed a lot his first four volumes (thanks to you) but this one seems so different. I will wait to see what you think of it down the road.

Haim

Doug,
The Strauss transcriptions is definitely worth having, especially if you are a Hamelin fan. If you don't have his Medtner disc I would go with the Forgotten Melodies first. It is just outstanding.

I think that Hamelin has a new disc of Schumann piano quintet with the Takacs quartet. Yes, I found it:

Same problem here with the charge card. I just ordered a second Hussong which probably will go to my daughter. I am going to try to take the rest of the year easy and Mr. Bavouzet can wait.

Haim, yes, as far as I know this was to be the last disc and completes the set.
The Schumann disc is in the mail somewhere

Franz Schubert: Julia Fischer (Violin), Martin Helmchen (Piano)
1. Sonata (Sonatina) for violin and piano in D major, D. 384 (Op. 137, No. 1)
2. Sonatina for Violin and Piano in A minor, D 385/Op. 137 no 2
3. Sonata (Sonatina) for violin and piano in G minor, D. 408 (Op. 137, No. 3)
4. Rondo for Violin and Piano in B minor, D 895/Op. 70 "Rondo Brillant"
Two of my very favorite young performers today. This is early Schubert but that doesn't matter to me. A very nice recording and I will listen to this many times while waiting for Volume 2 to come out.
