One of my all time favourite disks, and for all you new dads, it's knocks out my newborn like...erm whatever else works (tell me if you know of anything else...please).

Hi Paul, got to be this...

There's loads more great Neptunes productions for individual songs, but not many albums I could recommend other than Kelis's debut, Kaleidoscope.

Here's maybe my favourite track from In Search Of... Provider.

Thanks for the heads-up Mat.

Meanwhile...

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

A mesmeric film, with a mesmeric score. Whether the soundtrack works alone without having seen the film to give it context, I'm not sure. But I'm not sure I care. Having seen the film, I love the soundtrack. Almost all the tracks are good (only a couple of exceptions), and for me it climaxes in the finale, Song For Bob.

Denon of the night:

Stefan Hussong - Bach English Suites Nos. II, III & V

Copy no II, used and in perfect shape, arrived today and is getting its first spin.

Debs,

I think that it is music that you will appreciate.

Frédéric Chopin: Rafal Blechacz (Piano), Jerzy Semkow (Conductor), Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Concerto for Piano no 1 in E minor, B 53/Op. 11
Concerto for Piano no 2 in F minor, B 43/Op. 21

Johann Sebastian Bach: András Schiff (Piano)

Schiff plays the set in the key order of G+, a-, B flat+, c-, D+, e-. What's strange is that he refers to this order as forming a hexachord but I don't see that this sequence forms a hexachord or at least a hexachord by definition.

Partita for Keyboard no 5 in G major, BWV 829
Partita for Keyboard no 3 in A minor, BWV 827
Partita for Keyboard no 1 in B flat major, BWV 825
Partita for Keyboard no 2 in C minor, BWV 826
Partita for Keyboard no 4 in D major, BWV 828
Partita for Keyboard no 6 in E minor, BWV 830

Mat,

Emma Kirkby can sound very blissfull when the tune is right. She is not in the vocal line up on my 'Gothic Voices' that i am currently hearing, but it sounds peaceful enough to have sent my cat off to sleep, and i'll be joining her too very soon.

btw ~ Congrats! for your newborn! ; )
