Franz Schubert: Mark Padmore (Tenor), Paul Lewis (Piano)
Winterreise, D 911/Op. 89
I'm so thankful for all the music I am able to listen to and enjoy. This is no less true for Schubert and tonight in particular, the set of Winterreise. Maybe it's the time of year or the right mood I'm in but this is really amazing to listen to. I did warm up last weekend by listening to Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore doing the same. I can't imagine being without this music.

Stefan Hussong - Bach English Suites Nos. II, III & V
Copy no II, used and in perfect shape, arrived today and is getting its first spin.
Debs,
I think that it is music that you will appreciate.
Haim,
I had a look on spotify, and found that Stefan Hussong performed an 'Akkordeon' version of the Goldberg-Variationen which hails from 1988, and which sounds quaintly folky in a way like Captain Pugwash would approve, and I admit to actually liking this too ; )
However, this English Suites album is a lot better; far more serious and in better taste imho, I’ll just been on his web-site for a few sample tracks!
Thanks for pointing him out to me : )

Many thanks to Geoff P for recommending this, which I can't stop playing -
A wonderful CD; I've also got Elgar's Cello played by Jacqueline DuPré & conducted by Barenboim, one of the CBS "Masterworks" recordings, and it's so poor in comparison it's quite laughable.

The du Pre/LSO/Barbirolli has become the definitive recording of the work, and you can tell why. My wife, who's a cellist (and, on balance can't stand Jacqueling du Pre's overblown style), will analytically wax lyrical about each minute nuance and turn of phrase in this recording. Me--I'm somewhat more 'intuitive' when it comes to musical appreciation. I dunno what it is about this recording, I've got/heard others with more aggression or more overt emotion, yet this is the one that bears repeated listening, and that's my primary criterion for a good recording.

The best rap album ever made...probably. The only time rap approaches poetry to these ears - leagues ahead of his contemporaries, and set a standard neither he nor anyone else could reach.
The 'Out of My Mind' album is on rotation and is worth hunting down...
