Hello Jeff,

I've taken the time to skim through the last 50 pages or so today and I'm glad to see that God Help The Girl is staying. Smile

I've played some stuff lately that I thought you might like, if you don't know them yet.

Midlake, The Trial Of Van Occupanther

Roscoe
Head Home
Young Bride

England's best kept secret:

The Coral, Roots & Echoes

Put the Sun Back
Jacqueline
Rebecca You

I've tried Pete Yorn with Back & Fourth and I like it. Still growing.

I've finally bought the new Brett the other day, and it's indeed very different from Wilderness. It will take some time to get used to it, but I think I'll like it. It's just not the same music, for not the same moments. I find Wilderness straightly emotional, where Slow Attack has something more intellectual to it. (Very promising title! Will we all surrender in the end ? Winker)

Played this old friend the other day:

Grateful Dead, In the Dark

The sound of the 80's synths can be a bit odd sometimes, but it's great stuff nonetheless.

Now paying a visit to this wonderful band from Portugal:

Madredeus, Existir

If you have never heard Teresa Salgueiro sing O Pastor, then you're really missing something.

Acadia's best kept secret this time:

Zachary Richard, Cap Enragé

It was Zachary's first work in French for years when it was released in '97. I was on vacation in Quebec at the time, and it was played everywhere. He once confessed he had neglected his French roots for a while, and wanted to sing in this language again. What a success! A stunning piece of work.

If you like folk, I urge you to try it. Never mind it's in French, it's just great music.

quote:
Like all of its predecessors, the Walkabouts' Ended up a Stranger works on two levels: first, and most obviously, as a work of titanic lyrical and musical imagination, a joy forever; second, and more depressingly, a reminder of the meagre rewards that await the band who attempt to frame rock & roll in parameters other than the crass, blundering and witless. The Walkabouts are a preposterously great group, and almost nobody cares. The 13 impeccable songs on Ended up a Stranger are divided between the different but congruent voices of Carla Torgerson and Chris Eckman--the former wearily angelic, the latter just weary. Often cradled in luxuriant strings, these gently knelling ballads possess a sombre grandeur that would have pleased the Walker Brothers. This is another great album by The Walkabouts. Why aren't more people listening? --Andrew Mueller

For those who don't know the work of The Walkabouts, why not make 2009 the year you discover them?

This album is on Spotify.

Hope you have been well, Maurice.

You, Ewen, Gordon, Chief, PatK, Munch, Haim, Oliver, Adrian (sorry if I am forgetting names at the moment, so the catch-all...) and so many others here have led me to some great music, I am forever grateful.

Musical love to you all.

Yes, I've got all the five. I love them. To me they are a lot better than their contemporaries and Roots & Echoes is really special.
