One of my most played purchases of the year (even though it was released in 2008)

Me neither. However, it's permanently stuck in my memories, after hearing it hundreds of times from a very young age!
Maurice, I've tried out a few of the albums you've posted last few days. Thanks for this one, it's really good...

It's in the post.

This is one of my fave Douglas albums. Although I said on the jazz thread that American jazz was stuck in a rut, this is an American artist that is definitely not. Very prolific with his output. Had the pleasure of seeing him at the Village Vanguard a few years back playing this album with Uri Caine.

Great! I'm glad you like The Trial Of Van Occupanther Chief. I've played this album numerous times when it went out and many times since then. And Midlake even came to my town so I got the chance to see them live.
Now, how adventurous, but so wonderful:
David Byrne, Grown Backwards

It's my *only* Douglas album but I don't think it will be my last. Another American jazz musician that impresses me is David Binney - I play his "South" album on the ACT label regularly.
But tomorrow is an English jazz night - Gwilym Simcock Trio at the RNCM. Really looking forward to it.

Not all the Douglas albums are to my liking but there are so many to choose from - I have 25 of his works. Good ones for me are - Meaning and Mystery, The Infinite, Charms of the Night Sky, Soul on Soul. Well worth getting from his website is Live at the Bimhuis.
I agree on David Binney as well. I have quite a few of his discs and they are all first rate.
Enjoy your concert!

Generally not a big fan of compilations but have put on a couple tonight in my vinyl meanderings through some parts of the 80s...
A fabulous band
The duet with Kate Bush on Don't Give Up still a highlight and Solsbury still a personal favourite
Beautiful voice thoughtful lyrics. Probably not as good as the first LP for me however.
