Nominated by The Times, as jazz album of the decade. Who am I to disagree....
In a decade when Scandinavia staked a claim as the home of progressive jazz, no one had more success than this piano trio, melding Keith Jarrett-style lyricism with rock rhythms, electronic textures and a restless sense of adventure. The tragic death of Esbjorn Svensson halted their march to global success.

Yes, indeed - a great live album. Did you know Dan Berglund has his own band and is playing some dates in the UK next year?

Thanks, yes. I am going to go to the Southampton gig. Hope it is good - certainly looks very interesting. Some good jazz gigs coming up with Nils Petter Molvaer touring as well.
Is the new Gwilym Simcock album worth buying?

I haven't played it yet - it's sitting in a big pile of new CDs. The concert was a little disappointing - drums and bass seemed to dominate the mix, at the expense of his piano playing.
How about the Kings Place gigs - Gianluigi Trovesi and Louis Sclavis? I'm tempted to book myself a mini-break in London that week.

I could be up for that. There are a lot of gigs to book up now - John McLaughlin is playing as well and I have never seen him as is Rokia Traore, Andy Sheppard, .....
Now this fine album of trumpet, guitar and electronic soundscapes

Jeff, how is the new Richard Hawley ?
I have nothing from him, but I read one very good review about this new album, so I'm tempted.

Hi Maurice
This was my first R Hawley purchase, after seeing him mentioned here. It is certainly not upbeat. Very very slow tempo on this one, nice guitar fills/solos, big clear Johnny Cash voice. I need to listen to it a few more times before I come to a conclusion, and I don't know if this is "typical" of his releases.
BTW, I am a bit of a Gene Clark fan, he was my favorite Byrd, saw him live with the original group in 1965 and later with McGuinn and Hillman in 1978. A terrific songwriter.
Enjoy your weekend.

Errh... I went out with some good friends yesterday night, and I'm a bit ashamed to say that the weekend may well only begin tomorrow morning as far as I'm concerned...

Thank you anyway

Seriously, I did. I was sixteen, they were on a Dick Clark showcase tour with a number of other bands. Crosby was wearing the poncho, McGuinn (and I) were wearing granny glasses. Very very short set, they played no more than 30 minutes, but heard Mr Tambourine Man and Turn Turn Turn live. A terrific musical memory.
Hope you feel better after a recovery day, today. Music soothes, immerse yourself.
