Hi Oliver,

I am a fan as I have all three of her releases. I suspect many might question the quality of the recording, but I hear past that and the music sounds really fresh to me. Try to listen before you buy.

It's getting under my skin and looking to be my album of 2009.

I know little of Mr Waits music. Would this be a reasonable first purchase ? Is, perhaps, the guitarist on this Omar Torrez ? I have seen him play a number of times and know he was in the recent tour band of TW.

Thanks

This would most likely be the best introduction to TW.

Jeff A,

I don't feel I'm really in a position to answer your enquiry as this is only the second Waits album I've acquired. The other one is Mule Variations which I think is excellent.

Perhaps someone else here more au fait with his ouvre would care to step in?

Steve and Oliver

Thanks for your replies. Oliver I will look into those two discs.

I went ahead and am downloading Glitter and Doom. It is the touring band with Omar Torrez on guitar. I saw Omar numerous times on the Portland club circuit back around 2000-2002. A terrific guitar player who then was using flamenco stylings through his electric guitar with amazing results. So, combining OT talents with an introduction, for me, to some of Waits music is an irresistible combination.

Good listenin'

I follow the Chinese characters..

Same here, Debs, not the most listened Marais. I got it mainly because of Mitzi Meyerson's harpsichord playing.
