Great momentum from a strong percussive line and sparse melodic overlay. Bartsch likens the physicality of playing this to a martial art or dance. As a listener I was more taken with the sense of linear narrative. Terrific.

Thanks for the recommend, I will see if my library offers this and the other suggestions. Listened to a bit of Glitter and Doom and can see how it becomes infectious, but will need more "adjusting" to his take on music to know if it is a longer term liking.
I appreciate all the input.

I know little of Mr Waits music. Would this be a reasonable first purchase ? [...]
I'm very fond of Swordfishtrombones
The 3-discs collection Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards, although mainly comprised of tunes not easily available elsewhere, is a great introduction to the multiple facets of Tom Waits' immense talent. Not at all just a bunch of outtakes, it's really a grand thing.
Thanks, Maurice, added to the list.

Listening and watching The Pixies. A Sky Arts video of them at the 2004 Eurockeennes, there was also a doco about their 2004 reunion on SA previously.

Today is in my opinion a very very sad day for Switzerland. A desperate, vain, pathetic, helpless and delusory reaction:

Bernard Lavilliers, Noir et blanc

My young son has been pestering me constantly to buy him this album. I think it is great to see young kids on their musical journey. To date he has chosen some good bands - Killers, Oasis, Springsteen to name a few. But this is the current choice of the moment
as his school friends like it. He is happy singing along to the tunes and Mr Cowell is a little richer. We have just been out driving and it was Dad please can we play this.

Adrian, I can honestly say that I've never heard them sing a note, but even I know that the correct response to the above question is...
Would you like to walk home?
Your Take That from last year was much better!

Kagura (music offered to the gods), which features the use of enormous drums, has been played all over Japan since ancient times. Ondekoza is a group of (mostly) percussionists, which has brought together a large number of young people who have been training for many years. Each day, the group's members run for 10 to 20 km, to build strength and stamina. They play new arrangements of taiko (drum) music which are rooted in the essence of various folk arts from all over Japan, including Kagura, which can be considered as the home of the Japanese Spirit.
PS: Lontano might actually prefer JLS.
