Johann Sebastian Bach: Yehudi Menuhin (Violin)

Sonata for Violin solo no 1 in G minor, BWV 1001
Partita for Violin solo no 1 in B minor, BWV 1002
Sonata for Violin solo no 2 in A minor, BWV 1003
Partita for Violin solo no 2 in D minor, BWV 1004
Sonata for Violin solo no 3 in C major, BWV 1005
Partita for Violin solo no 3 in E major, BWV 1006

These are recordings from !934/1935 so they must be good because they are from within the period of time when musicians were enlightened by the gods for a short time in the history of recording on the earth and were allowed to share with us the secrets and truth in musicWinker The truth is that old recordings are very hard for me to listen to and enjoy as music. It is interesting but nothing more. I would sooner just look at the score and imagine or study it that way. Part of the problem stems from the fact that I have heard enough live violin performances to not be faced with a dilemma of the problem in what I am listening to; a violin does not sound like this in real life.

Actually, I'm working my way through this box set. It has nothing to do with the music or the artist but this exemplifies to me why I generally cannot listen to music recorded before the 1950's. Fortunately, this set has ample examples of post 1950's recordings all of which I enjoy very much. Currently listening to the Schubert B flat Piano Trio which is quite nice.

Carly Simon: Another Passenger
'76 Relase. UK Elektra pressing.
Contains no mega hit but I always liked a Ted Templeman produced album.

Carly Simon: Hotcakes
'74 Release. The original US Elektra WLP.

Maxwell: Now
2001 release. US Columbia pressing.

Well here is their first outing. "We are a garageband in Garageland". Well indeed.

But, if most of the album consists of revindicative revolutionary rock tunes, "White man in Hammersmith Palais" gives a glimpse of the multiplicity of musical styles that were to come on London Calling and Sandinista. "I fought the Law" is still a right-on rock anthem.

Chief, I'm wondering if you might like this:

Jeanne Balibar, Paramour

She's a French actress who has a deep and warm voice, with something cold and distant in it. Very peculiar. And there's a beautiful duet with Maggie Cheung.

Food for thought: the music submitted on this thread seems to be more to my liking when I'm away...

Anyway, trying to wake up before going to work:

U2, Rattle And Hum

A good day to you all.

It is definitely worth a listen.

This is not the Ravel interpretation but from what I can tell it is Andsnes own.

Cheers

Tony Banks (from Genesis) Strictly Inc - I like this album. Probably sold about 20 copies but much better than it's success implies.
