Very cool Jeff. Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure the show was very good.

Oliver, Pat

Good day, gentlemen. It is better than I anticipated. I love Year of Meteors and Saltbreakers but this returns her more to the folk sound of Carbon Glacier (no electronica to speak of on the new one) and even further back to the banjo sounds of Orphan Mae. But it is more than just folk, as she has always been. It sounds fresh and uplifting. It glows, as she did last night. She seems to be at a really good place in her life and music and I think it shows.

The next generation may get to hear some wonderful new music at some point, from the off-spring of Benjamin Gibbard and Zoey Dechanel, Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore, and soon, in the spring, from Laura Veirs and Tucker Martine.

Hope you both are doing well and having a nice weekend.

Jeff A

edit: should mention also, more keyboards on this release and some guests are Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Chris Funk and Nate Query (The Decemberists) and the Tosca String Quartet

I've just listened to a few songs on MySpace and I like it. I cannot find the CD locally yet though.

Hi Maurice

I don't have any Zoey music, though Pat K has She/Him with Zoey/M Ward and speaks well of it.
I love Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) and am considering a local show of him and Jay Farrar at the same venue I was at last night, but my legs are spent after several hours standing on concrete anymore. We'll see about attending that. Laura has been on my radar since a local review of Carbon Glacier 4 or 5 years ago and I now have 6 cd's and an ep of her.

be well
Jeff A

ps: consider the Pete Yorn/Scarlett Johannson disc, very short at 35 minutes, but I enjoy it every time I put it on.

Probably have a tough time outside amazon and cdbaby and that may have to be downloads. I love Deasy and have all his stuff, he is from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and I was introduced to Bill's music by Michael Stanley (you may know I hold him in high regard Smile) covering several of his songs.

Another sailing race today. Quite a different story during winter, it was around 5°C, but at least it wasn't raining or snowing! I'm exhausted, won't be long before I go to bed Smile

I will. I like Back & Fourth a lot, as well as the PY&SJ's single played on the local radio.

Hi Denis,

Have seen RF many times in small local clubs but not for quite awhile as I don't get out so often anymore.

Only have several discs, they are great, but Willy's narrative lyrical style is not my personal favorite. But the quality is certainly there in his work. The new album has a terrific title doesn't it. I have several bootlegs I made of them back in the early '00s.

Portland has so many good bands. Blind Pilot was very very good last night and tight and polished from a lot of touring this year. It was you or Diccus that made me aware of them here in the Music Room. I am indebted.

regards
Jeff A
