I regularly come back to this album. Loved it since i heard the first notes of Up On The Downside, and still do after quite a few years now.

Hi Denis,
Have seen RF many times in small local clubs but not for quite awhile as I don't get out so often anymore.
Only have several discs, they are great, but Willy's narrative lyrical style is not my personal favorite. But the quality is certainly there in his work. The new album has a terrific title doesn't it. I have several bootlegs I made of them back in the early '00s.
Portland has so many good bands. Blind Pilot was very very good last night and tight and polished from a lot of touring this year. It was you or Diccus that made me aware of them here in the Music Room. I am indebted.
regards
Jeff A
I've never really listened to RF before this opbmusic session and I like like it very much. The interview with Willy Vlautin was very enlightening and I will get this latest release.
It must have been Dicuss who recommended Blind Pilot, he's good at musical tips (viewing & listening now, great tunes and singing). Meeting in Pub's is another story

BTW, do you know if opbmusic is based in Portland? It will take me weeks to work through the studio performances. This has been a great find.

(In case any forum members who know me are wondering, I still consider 'The Doors' to be the most influential band in MY musical history)
As to Tindersticks, listen to 'My Oblivion, Travelling light, Dying Slowly or All the Love'

Yes, just a mile or so from my home on the other side of the Willamette River that splits Portland between east and west sides.
OPB is Oregon Public Broadcasting, essentially the state version of NPR, public funded radio and TV.
Many of the bands I saw listed there are Portland based or have a significant connection here.
The opener last night at the Blind Pilot and Laura Veirs show was Mimicking Birds, they are on that list of live sessions. I kind of like them, look forward to them releasing a cd.

Thanks Jeff, you certainly live in a musical hotspot.
I can now add OPB to my other US favorites, KCRW, NPR, The Dividing Line and not forgetting the wonderful LFDH
The UK has a long way to go, if ever, replicating these excellent broadcasts.
Have a good weekend.

One more spin of Mechanical Wonder (the song) and off to bed. A good night (or a nice day) to you all.

This could keep you busy for a while :
http://www.archive.org/browse....2Fmetadata%2Fcreator

click on the audio tab at the top of the page and you will get catagories for classical, 78s, cylinder recordings (music and arts), books, etc etc etc
it even includes one of mine, that someone unknown to me uploaded and has been downloaded 5,000 times, that is so weird ! and one of the comments is it sounds like a soundboard when actually it was a single mic mono recording to analog tape on a Nak Dragon and transferred to cd-r.

It takes a while to scan, but there are some pretty well-known/regarded artists in there.
take care
