Schoenberg - Piano Music - Maurizio Pollini

Bought this years ago after hearing Pollini's classic Stravinsky/Prokofiev/Webern/Boulez recording, and greatly enjoying his fire and passion (and control) with that modern repertoire.

Surprisingly, the Schoenberg is much 'mellower', even though it's more atonal than Stravinsky or Prokofiev, but Pollini, again, manages to bring meaning to what, in other hands, could (and frequently does) sound like atonal plink-plonk. For me, it's an unusual choice for a Sunday morning, but seemed to work.

Lontano, which disc do you find yourself playing more frequently: 1 or 2, i.e. 1976 or 1987 remix?

I have have always held them in high regard but I am rapidly upgrading Tindersticks to one of my most important bands of all time.

(In case any forum members who know me are wondering, I still consider 'The Doors' to be the most influential band in MY musical history)

As to Tindersticks, listen to 'My Oblivion, Travelling light, Dying Slowly or All the Love'

The second LP is a particular favourite of mine. I too have a soft spot for Travelling Light, and also for Mistakes and the duet with Isabella Rossellini on Marriage Made in Heaven, which I think is a good example of their humour (often overlooked) which is on this compilation (may be somewhere else too?):

Are they taking an orchestra on tour with them this time?

Reminds me of the Mechanical Wonder I was listening to yesterday. Le Composteur des Lilas, the soulless counterpart for the last decades of the 20th century. Not to mention Le Portique magnétique des Lilas for the 21st.

Noted, thanks.

I feel a Michael Stanley fever coming on today, so will start with this:

Michael Stanley "Eighteen Down"

Eighteen Down refers to it being his eighteenth release, I believe it is #25 due out the end of this month, I have owned all at one time or another.
