Agnes Milewski "Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls"
Austrian singer/songwriter pianist with Tori influences. I love playing new-to-me stuff, this is the second listen.

re: Richard Hawley
Adrian,
I am trying to get a grasp on this, my first Hawley purchase. So mellow and slow it is dirge-like at times to me, but allows spaces for some beautiful guitar playing. The voice is rich, seemingly ethereal at times. All the pieces are there abundantly but the overall effect hasn't taken me in yet, but I will keep working it - there is obviously meat on the bones.
Is this a typical RH release ?
regards

Jeff - keep trying it is nice. This is meant to be the album that will connect for more people. His others are very listenable and not a dissimilar style.
Here the tree is now up, I am about to light the log fire for the first time in six years and Andy Williams is sounding sweet.

Yes. Brahm's finest work.
Found it, just had it on.
The solo vocalist is without peer, and overall, a truly profound piece that works on many levels. Thanks for the reminder, db!

Wim Mertens - The Belly of an Architect
This soundtrack to the Peter Greenaway film of the same name suffers a real personality disorder. Half the tracks are atmospheric, mood pieces by Glenn Branca. The other half are minimalist-like miniatures by Wim Mertens.
In the film they work magnificently, but without Peter Greenaway's gobsmackingly audacious (and pretentious, but in the best possible way) visuals to provide unification, they blend less well.
But, if you enjoyed Michael Nyman's soundtracks to other Peter Greenaway works like Counting by Numbers or The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover, you really should listen to the Wim Mertens half of this sountrack.
Struggle for Pleasure is probably the track that stands out the most.

YES! I love the movie, the soundtrack, and Wim Mertens' work on this one is a personal favourite.
Yann Tiersen was IMHO more than inspired by this for the Amélie soundtrack.

Lontano, which disc do you find yourself playing more frequently: 1 or 2, i.e. 1976 or 1987 remix?
I tend to always play the 76 disc as that was the one I knew first. Will try out the 87 soon. Cheers
