Sigur Ros - Hvarf / Heim

Double album, double EP?

I find this collection to be Sigur Ros' most direct, 'honest' artistic expression.

The 'unplugged' Heim is a real eye opener--replacing the ambient electronic magic with straightforward arrangements of strings etc really doesn't reduce the beauty of the music. I prefer Heim's version of Agaetis Byrjun to that on the album Agaetis Byrjun itself, though Staralfur, perhaps, loses a little for its reduction to acoustic instruments.

Hey mongosaur, I can guess what that is...

Well done for getting In Search Of. I can hardly even remember what's on Fly Or Die, save for She Wants To Move, famous for a daft video featuring some dancing from SCD's Alesha, no less. If you've never seen it, worth a peak (!)

Oh, just so you know, find your picture, then copy and paste the image location between

I like Seim's work with larger bands, but I'm finding this hard going, although it's not without passages of sparse beauty.

Because it keeps getting better...

Chief, thanks for the tip.... Mongosaur??? Wish i'd picked that name. Surely tou recall Wonderful place? And Maybe? As for the She Wants To Move video... that's how i'm blind. Smile

Calamus: The Splendour of Al-Andalus'

Arab-Andalusian music of the 12th to the 15th century.

Intimacy informs this disc with every phrase. The quintet plays well together—colloquially, not stiffly. The music never strays far from dance. Begoña Olavide possesses a warm, intense, expressive voice. The first time I heard it—in Stax's room at WCES—I nearly leaped out of my skin when she sang "Insad (God Watch Over the Singer)"; it was as warm and intimate and shocking as a tongue in the ear.

The disc is immensely moving, suffused with longing, pain, and a sense of resignation, and yet I can't get enough of it. There's such an exciting sense of shared humanity in this recording that I'm not conscious of the distance of centuries, continents, cultures—I am the singer, I have been the songwriter, I inhabit the notes.—Wes Phillips

I've never really got Spiritualized a friend introduced me to them when Lazer Guided Melodies was released and subsequently the Floating album I might have to revisit them to see if it hits the spot.

Steve, saw your post and had to put it on, and lasted until Jason murmurs I think I'd like to take myself to heaven about five minutes in before the hairs were standing up on my neck.

Not exactly easy listening, but just an awesome record and a return to form for a great band.

Haim,

Is this the same formation that plays Medieval Women's Song?

Debs,

May I ask where you find your covers you post ?
Whenever I go to post a classical selection, I can never find a corresponding cover to the particular ensemble, composer, soloists, conductor.

Thanks

OdS,

It is a different group of Spanish musicians though their music is no less wonderful:
