Djivan Gasparyan - Moon Shines At Night
Armenian duduk music.
Since coming to many people's attention (including mine) through Peter Gabriel's Passion, and subsequent Real World label releases, the Armenian duduk has become widely used on cinema soundtracks--it's almost mandatory for scenes of desolation or despair. (For example to accompany Lisa Gerrard in the soundtrack to Gladiator). Hollywood doesn't do it justice.
The various recordings by Djivan Gasparyan are probably the most widely available duduk recordings. But I sometimes find his playing a little 'sweet' (often it depends on my mood)--perhaps akin to Itzhak Perlman on the violin.

For the first time in about 15 years. Oh the nostalgia.
I think the revisiting the music of your youth is some kind of ghastly portent of the weary onset of middle-age, but what the hell?

Picked it up at the Porcupine Tree concert last night..(john Wesley always joins them as touring guitarist).. Steve Wilsons Mixing and Mark Prats Engineering make it shine but the musics damn good too, good old fashioned rock music with no frills but riffs that grab you straight away and just a hint of southern country thrown in.. And at £5 an absolute must have..
