Hi m0omo0, I hope you have the heating cranked up at home--for both the sake of your flu, and to feel the searing heat of passion!

Thank you Nathaniel. This wonderful music is warming and comforting.

I like your music suggestions by the way.

They did on some of the earlier tours, but not on the last couple.

Thanks

Maurice - I did a quick comparison.

I was particularly impressed with the remaster of Gabriel 2. On my system neither disc was bright, but the remaster was louder, but not too much, and well there was a lot more depth to the music, instruments and voice. A more full sound and to my ears an improvement. I was quite surprised how dull the original pressing of 2 sounded by comparison.

On 1, similar story but maybe less of a difference.

Cheers

Many thanks for giving yourself trouble Adrian. I'll search for these remasters, they appear on sale sometimes.

I was surprised that this one sounded to my ears like a typical production from Daniel Lanois: this "dark" sound, even though it's a different music from No Mercy, Wrecking Ball or Acadie for instance. Didn't notice that on So.

It is a very different sounding album to So but then there was a long gap between the two albums of 6 years and US reflects some of the relationship issues he had been having in his life at that point.

His new album is not far off! An album of covers and he is playing a few gigs as well - London 02 has been announced which I look forward to.

"With only 2 months and 1 day to go until the release of 'Scratch My Back' on February 15th 2010, details are gradually escaping the studio. We thought we'd open the door a little wider here. You may have seen the now finalised track-listing and running-order we published in the 'news' section - if so, it will be no surprise to read that the album will feature Peter's recordings of Heroes (David Bowie), The Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon), Mirrorball (Elbow), Flume (Bon Iver), Listening Wind (Talking Heads), The Power of the Heart (Lou Reed), My Body is a Cage (Arcade Fire), The Book of Love (The Magnetic Fields), I Think it's Going to Rain Today (Randy Newman), Après Moi (Regina Spektor), Philadelphia (Neil Young) and Street Spirit (Fade Out) (Radiohead).

Peter describes this as a very personal record with the twelve songs performed only with orchestral instruments and voice. To help craft the recording Peter enlisted John Metcalfe as composer/arranger, the expertise of producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, Lou Reed’s ‘Berlin’) and the engineer, mixer and producer Tchad Blake (Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow, Tom Waits).

'Scratch My Back' was recorded at George Martin’s Air Lyndhurst Studios and the Real World Temple with further editing back here at Real Worlds Studios in Wiltshire. Those lucky enough to be at last summers WOMAD Charlton Park got a preview of the record when Peter opened his set with Paul Simon's 'The Boy In The Bubble' and 'The Book of Love' from The Magnetic Fields. Hopefully we'll be able to let the rest of you hear some excerpts soon."

I haven't got Secret World Live or OVO or other film scores, so this is the end of the road for now.

Peter Gabriel, Up

I like this one very much, although it is not an easy one.

PS: And it shows that mastering fashion has evolved since the time of Us. I had not touched the volume pot, and I almost died from surprise when Darkness took off after the intro... Big Grin

Thank you for the recommendation Stu. I'm not much into musical DVDs because my AV setup is less than basic, but PG's shows are always worth a look! (Memories...)

Personally I think they have done an excellent job but all I have had to compare it with is an RVG remaster which frankly sucks.

Have not played this for a while but I dont remember it sounding so "iffy" before. In fact Im going to have to spend some time convincing myself I haven't touched something and the whole systems having a bad day! The last couple of tracks sounded particularly bad, reminded me of the old days and my first hi fi when I listened to Albums on a Marantz turntable which was incapable of playing the last two tracks of any album without adding distortion..

What a very very good record - one of my most favourite Christmas records ever; not in any Top whatevers on this forum though.

It's never bothered me that "my" music isn't in any lists, generally speaking. Yes it is a VVG record.
Now on CD:-
