Would my system (cd5x/112x/150x)deliver the benefits or are they overkill at this level of system?

Thanks

They have been remastered by Steve Hoffman (the 24k is just the cosmetic part of it) and with the exception of the Pretenders title I find the sound quality superior to most previous versions. In some cases, like with the Doors title the difference is so obvious that you don't require the most resolving set up to get the full benefit and enjoyment out of it.

It's a tough call on the "worth it" for me. It depends how critically you listen to your music. Oliver and I tried out some different versions of CD's at the weekend - Doobie Brothers MOFI versus much cheaper recent Jap version for instance and they sounded different but both sounded very good. One would set you back 25, the other maybe 5.

I think I would advise you to try one and compare and see what you think. If you get hooked, then great, but it ain't going to be cheap and in these days of cheap CD's, these audiophile pressings are some of the few discs not going down in price.

Thanks for the responses Miles & Lontano.

I think that I might take your advice and try one (maybe Morrison Hotel as I have this on Vinyl and 'ordinary' cd already) and see what I think. Not sure that I would buy many at those prices unless there is a big jump in quality though, but I might be able to justify replacing some of my favourites as a 'treat'.

Thanks again

Did your replacement copy come through?[/QUOTE]

Yes. Thanks for that Ewemon. They did't want my copy so it has found a good home. Superb service.

Yes your system would showcase the difference.

Justin Currie - What Is Love For?

A wonderful, searching album. Justin Currie is overlooked I feel.

One thing I will add Nigel is that there are 2 different faulty pressings of this AF album out there. The manufacturing plant simply made a b***s up of it.

The one you must get has the cat no on the disc AFZ037-2. On the rear sleeve and side it will be AFZ 037.

There are a couple of clicks on both of the faulty pressings during Roadhouse Blues that most people won't hear but you may.

If you get a bad copy then contact Audio Fidelity direct and Heather there will sort you out.
