I bought this about six months ago on the recommendation hereabouts. Wouldn't play. Had PIC upgrade on my CDS2, still wouldn't play. Put it aside. But for some reason, I just had the urge to try it again today. Bingo! And very agreeable early Saturday evening music I'm finding it too.
PS When whoever it was recommended it (I'm afraid I can't remember who), I'd just like to stress that it wasn't the artwork that got me interested, but the recommendor's description of the music... Hope that's clear!

We all are only interested in the art.
PS: Is there a front view on the back sleeve?

That was me! Good news that the CDS2 is now enjoying it.

Did you go to the Paris concert? I was at the London.
Unfortunately no. I do go to a lot of things at the Pleyel... but recently business travel has meant a I've missed about four concerts in a row (for which I have tickets) including the LSO under Gergiev. Ho hum. Tim.

In contra-distinction to the well tempered clavier... here's one from the bad tempered old goat.....

I saw Keith Jarrett at the Salle Pleyel once with his trio and that became the album Whisper Not. I am very impressed with the calibre of artists that appear there. You are very lucky to have that one on your doorstep.

It had a full refit too a few years ago and now boasts a fine acoustic. It is a focal point for a lot of fine acts including practically all the world class classical orchestras. It's on the bus route too... Next concert I am due to see is Gergiev on Jan 29th and LSO on 30 & 31st. Here's hoping I can get to those ones.

Selected tracks from this classic album!
I consider 'The power of love' to be one of the most beautifully written love songs of all time.
quote:I'll protect you from the hooded claw,
Keep the vampires from your door.
When the chips are down, I'll be around,
With my undying, death-defying
Love for you

On red vinyl and with a signed sleeve. Belongs to Mrs Plane. Finding it quite pleasant.

Patty Griffin "Children Running Through"

Posted on: 19 December 2009 by Voltaire

For those who missed me raving about this album the first 100 times...
quote:As a singer-songwriter, Joshua Kadison reveals a variety of classic influences, but he might strike some well-travelled listeners as the spiritual offspring of Billy Joel and Edie Brickell, sort of an itinerant piano man cum bohemian romantic. Projecting nomadic images of wandering, the search for identity, and desultory romance, PAINTED DESERT SERENADE depicts a profound, worldly romanticism for the 1990s.
Kadison's opening track "Jessie" sums up his appeal. She's an oldflame with a habit of turning up at the most inopportune times, and with his keen eye for narrative detail, Kadison conveys his character's sense of longing and futility, as the moody melodic details leave listeners suspended in doubt, is this a long goodbye or will it all work out?
"All the callers call in, but the thing that's so strange, It's all the same story, just the voices that change on", Kadison sings on "Beau's All Night Love Line", evoking the haunting imageryof Elton John and Bernie Taupin at a perfect power pop tempo, as mandolin and harmonica toll away suggestively. The sense of yearning and liberation Kadison conveys on PAINTED DESERT SERENADE belies the singer's quiet approach--there's real fire and rage in Kadison's reflective cool.

Normally I don't entertain 'best of' albums but I gladly make an exception for the remarkable track, 'The Grave' by Don McLean. Imagine Rubert Brooke or Wilfred Owen set to music...

Bill Deasy "The Miles"

This soundtrack is often overlooked but it has some superb covers of Dylan tracks by some very serious musical heavyweights (check out Mark Lanegan sounding like Johnny Cash doing an impresssion of Bob Dylan on 'Man in the long black coat').
On Spotify for those who can.
