I haven't seen too many posts on here alluding to the VF. A very important band in my book, carving out a whole niche of folk-punk and then gospel inspired tunes. This first album remains the highlight for me getting dozens of spins when it first came out in 1983.

Carrying on in the Violent Femmes vein is this French outfit. This is the first album from 1997, produced as it happens by Gordon Gano. The influence of the VF is palpable. Great for parties around midnight- with not a trace of electronics.
